Have you ever wanted to just quickly get up to speed on a topic? I mean really quickly!? Say you are at a dinner party with your significant other’s highly intelligent (and often times very judge mental) colleagues and everyone keeps voicing their opinions about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict’ taking place. You have no real clue what they are talking about (if only they’d start talking about Football you’d be set) and just need access to a brief, fact-based overview of what it is so you can at least bluff through an opinion on it. You discretely pull out your phone…but where do go first? Wikipedia – too lengthy/inaccurate…News Article – too opinionated and long form…YouTube – where’s my headphones? About.com – advertising overload…the list goes on.

The truth is there is no one location on the web where you can find brief, fact-based overviews on any topic. This glaring gap in the internet is what drove us to create AbridgeME, the world’s first crowdsourced knowledge platform comprised entirely of summaries in 100 words or less.By cutting off all summaries at 100 words, we allow even the busiest and most distracted individuals to get an understanding on a topic.

Many people are calling AbridgeME a cleaner, “Cliff’s Notes” version of Wikipedia and we are happy with that as it easily gets the point across to what we have built and resonates with users.

While we were developing the technology for AbridgeME over the last five months, we were also working hard to get experts in their fields to actively contribute to the platform. With the help of some awesome writers across the globe I am excited to say that we have now launched our open beta with over 500 topics summarized and ready to access. As AbridgeME becomes a household name and the go to spot for a quick explanation, we are confident the content base will grow organically through direct publishing on the site.

The online reference information space has been dominated by a few large players that have built deep content bases over the last 10 or so years. By creating a new medium to explain any topic in 100 words or less, AbridgeME is able to deliver to the world purely concise summaries for anyone with an internet connection to consume. iOS app coming very soon!
