Casetabs Is Revolutionizing The Way Surgeries Are Coordinated

Listen to this article

Casetabs offers a fresh and innovative approach to case communication and collaboration in the healthcare space. Casetabs has huge impact on patient care, physician satisfaction, and costs efficiency. Recently raised $2.6 million will help them to share these advantages with more surgery centers across the US. Below is our interview with Gavin Fabian, CEO at Casetabs:

Gavin-Fabian

Q: What is Casetabs?

Casetabs is revolutionizing the way surgeries are coordinated. In surgery centers without Casetabs, most surgeries are coordinated through fragmented chains of email, text messages, phone calls, white boards, and word of mouth. Important information is routinely lost and changes in the schedule can require hours to communicate. Casetabs solves these problems with a mobile and desktop application that creates a central hub for sharing case information and real-time updates through all phases of a surgery.

Q: What is the startup story?

Our impetus for building the product stems from the personal experience of our management team, observing first-hand the challenges of coordinating a case. Personally, as a product manager for a spinal implant company, I spent time in hundreds of different ORs, and consistently saw that communication was a major challenge, and the consequences of this poor communication involved surgery delays, cancellations, unprepared staff, and frustrated physicians. In one of these spine surgeries, the surgeon was an hour into a lumbar fusion when he asked for a odd-sized implant, and it wasn’t available because nobody informed the rep it was needed. Needless to say, it was a major problem. We started Casetabs to solve this problem.

Q: What does the app do and which customer’s benefit?

When a surgery center is using Casetabs, everyone involved with the case is empowered to share and receive important case updates in real-time and from any device. This includes the surgery center’s office staff, clinical staff, physicians, the outside physician offices, and vendor reps. In our research, we found the average surgery center performs an average of 25 communication touch points to coordinate a single case. This includes sharing schedule changes, product and equipment needs, and staffing updates. With Casetabs, the communication touch points are reduced to an average of 5 per case, with increased transparency, reliability, and accountability. With over 60,000 surgeries coordinated through Casetabs in the last year, our case studies prove that surgery centers are saving time, improving physician satisfaction, and mitigating risks.

To learn more, we recently filmed Casetabs in use at one of the busiest surgery centers in the country.

Q: You’ve recently raised $2.6 Million. What are your plans?

Our mission is to help coordinate the world’s surgeries, and this funding gives our team the ability to share Casetabs with more surgery centers. We believe in our product and the impact it has on patient care, physician satisfaction, and costs efficiency, so we couldn’t be more thrilled about the opportunity bring it to surgery centers across the US.

Q: What can we expect from you in the future? What are your plans?

As we grow, we will eventually begin marketing Casetabs to hospitals and other medical facilities that need to coordinate episodes of care, such as urgent care and dental clinics. We also have an aggressive product team that is working on functionality to expand the value of Casetabs, including an app for patients.
