Q: Electric Cloud solutions and services help organizations boost DevOps productivity; tell us something more about Electric Cloud and your core competency?

A: Electric Cloud is focused on the software delivery process. For over a decade, we have been helping large enterprises automate and accelerate their software delivery, to improve the productivity of their teams and deliver software-based innovation to the market faster, and with better quality.

Our DevOps automation and end-to-end Continuous Delivery platform basically automates the entire software delivery pipeline – from the code the developer checks-in, all the way through to production. We automatically build the software, run it through the various tests, and deploy it through the different environments – from UAT, SIT, Staging, Prod, etc.

As you can imagine, a myriad of point-tools are involved in every organizations’ software production: from development tools, test tools, infrastructure and virtualization tools, ops monitoring, and so on. By providing an enterprise-grade orchestration platform, we enable our customers to integrate and automate a disparate set of CI and DevOps tools. This automation not only significantly accelerates all aspects of the software delivery process, but also helps ensure compliance and auditability requirements are met while reducing the frequency of errors that are introduced as part of a manual delivery process.

Q: Who is your ideal customer and why?

A: Electric Cloud’s customers are amongst the Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies across many different verticals and geographical markets that require a scalable DevOps automation and Continuous Delivery solution. We work with some of the largest and most complex organizations in the world such as Cisco, GE, Gap, Oracle, Lockheed Martin, Huawei, E*Trade, SpaceX, Intel and more. These customers come to us because we have designed our solutions to scale to support the volume and velocity they operate in, where globally distributed development and operations teams made up of thousands of people are developing, testing and delivering software every single day.

We have extensive experience in helping these large enterprises solve their pain points and eliminate bottlenecks in their software delivery process to help them save time and money, and simply make software delivery smoother and more reliable.

Q: What are the main benefits for development and IT operations teams?

A: There are literally hundreds of tools a developer or development organization could use for creating an application. One of our customers (a very large telecommunications provider) told me that they use more than 50 tools within their software delivery process. They have all these individual pieces that are automated, but there’s no orchestrated end-to-end process and that is where our solution Electric Flow comes into play. This solution can take all of those islands or silos of automation and turn it into a completely coordinated pipeline. This produces a much speedier, reliable and consistent process, while ensuring enterprise-level visibility of the entire process, and alleviating the bottlenecks between the steps. It also provides complete traceability and record of everything that happened to your code or artifact – from the build, through test and deployment processes. That way, you have internal awareness and process management, in addition to ways for these large organizations to be compliant and address any regulatory factors that play into their software solutions.

Q: How does Electric Cloud differ from competition?

A: There are two fundamental differentiators that I would highlight that makes Electric Cloud a leader in what it provides to the marketplace. One is the enterprise-grade nature of what we do. We are designed to scale to support the largest organizations in the world, that support thousands of developers, hundreds of thousands of jobs per day, thousands of applications, environments etc. This is why the Global 2000 and Fortune 500 companies come to us, since we can help them create an internal, centralized, DevOps automation services to streamline their operations. Second is the breadth of what we can automate for our clients. Our competitors may help automate only part of the delivery pipeline – such as the build part of the process, some may help automate testing and maybe some on deployment – but we are the only solution that can automate the entire process. We give our clients the choice to use the tools they want throughout their software build-test-deploy processes and we are the underlying orchestration bus, so to speak, for driving that entire software delivery process.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: We want to continue to be a leader in the DevOps automation and Continuous Delivery space. To that end, we know that we need to help nurture this burgeoning community since it is still evolving and very much in its infancy. Therefore, one of the things we did was to work with the leading author in DevOps, Gene Kim from IT Revolution, to turn our user conference into a new industry event called the DevOps Enterprise Summit. We were so thrilled to have sold out our inaugural event in 2014 that we doubled the size of our conference for this October to bring even more subject matter experts together across many different industries to share and learn about ways to adopt and implement IT transformations through DevOps.

We also aim to continue to grow as a company by expanding our business and communities into new geographical regions such as Asia, Latin America and Europe. We’ll continue to support our community through programs such as Continuous Discussions (c9d9), which are live online video chats with fellow IT practitioners and software delivery experts that are free for anyone to view. Finally, we will plan to offer new DevOps automation and Continuous Delivery products and services that help tackle each and every step of the software delivery process.
