The initial product addresses PPC optimization by learning exactly how much a click is worth and applying it to Search and Shopping campaigns to gain performance in real time. Below is our interview with Bjorn Espenes, Finch’s co-Founder and CEO:

Q: You’ve recently announced partnership with LinkShare Japan; could you tell us something more?

A: This partnership is a big deal for Finch because it validates what we have been working on for seven years to bring our technology to online advertisers. LSJ is the marketing arm of one of the largest eCommerce companies in the world, Rakuten, and this partnership is another validation that our innovative approach is gaining acceptance and recognition. By partnering with them, Japanese advertisers will be able to utilize our technology to drive profitable growth through paid search and shopping. Both teams are very excited about this partnership and the impact we will jointly have in the Japanese market.

Q: What are main benefits of your programmatic advertising platform?

A: Programmatic advertising is how AdWord campaign management must be handled nowadays. The industry’s complexity of bidding, keyword management, devices, audience management, new attribution models, etc. is continually on the rise. It’s just too much for a simple tool to handle and it’s definitely way past the point of spreadsheet management. We have a unique technology that works in a holistic way that is able to take all that available data to ultimately make the most profit for our clients.

One huge benefit is how this holistic management can systematically influence the Quality Score. Quality Score is Google’s black box. No one has really been able to tap into what makes their Quality Score improve systemically and in large scale, but this is what we at Finch have cracked. Our technology works in a constant, consistent and comprehensive way; and over time the relative Quality Score on the clicks we buy for our clients is going up. Anyone who knows AdWords understands that this is the ultimate competitive advantage.

The rapidly increasing complexity is severely limiting the effectiveness of many marketers who still rely on tools and spreadsheets, being able to execute with a holistic approach where automation goes way beyond bidding is the new frontier!

Q: Who is your ideal client and why?

A: We optimize AdWords campaigns for two types of clients: eCommerce companies and companies doing lead generation. Our technology works very well for these type companies because they have a lot of data from their transactions that helps us build click profiles in real time to replicate the high performing clicks.

As far as a “perfect” size of company, it truly depends on the company model. We have all sizes in our client base ranging from global brands to niche sites. Common to all of them is the drive towards growth and profits.

Q: What are your plans for next six months?

A: We’ve been in growth mode since we started the company and there are no signs of anything slowing down. Our team is growing rapidly and we are starting to see even faster growth in key markets for us. Expanding in Japan is very exciting, and it comes in addition to our presence in the US, Europe, Australia and South America.

We just expanded our solution to cover Bing Search and Shopping and there are a few more product expansions that will excite the market and surprise our competitors in the coming months.

We also have turned more of our resources towards our clients. We want to be the best paid search partner on the planet and that takes more than technology. To do this, we’ve allocated more time, energy and devoted more resources to support making profitable growth an experience that is predictable and transparent.

Q: What’s the achievement Finch is most proud of?

A: Traditionally, I suppose I should say that I’m most proud of being #145 on the Inc. 500 list for the “Fastest Growing Companies in the US” or that we were highlighted in Google’s Economic Impact Report this year. We’re also in the top 5% of all Google’s agencies as a Premier Google Partner. All of these accolades are amazing.

Honestly, I’m most proud of what this company means to our team and our clients. Finch is a tight knit company with a strong passion to change our industry. We’re out to set the world on fire and have fun doing it. We have attracted some of the smartest and best people to work with and being proud of our team and their impact is what I ultimately most proud of!
