Gooee – Full-Stack Enterprise IoT Ecosystem Connects Lighting Manufacturers To The IoT

Listen to this article

Gooee has designed and engineered an enterprise scale IoT lighting ecosystem that provides sensing, control and communication layers that integrate with an enterprise scale cloud platform. The innovative service-driven, scalable framework enables lighting manufacturers & building management companies to connect to the IoT. Below is our interview with Gooee’s CTO & Co-Founder Simon Coombes:

Simon Coombes

Q: Could you explain the function and advantages of your full-stack smart lighting ecosystem?

A: Our full stack is a combination of hardware and software to allow easy physical connection (both new build and retro-fit) of lighting product into our connected cloud platform offering highly scalable multi-site management with tiered access, energy saving including reporting from innovative edge node sensing, lighting analytics and lighting control / scheduling.

Our advantages include interoperability across lighting product, wireless and wired communication both on and off premise as well as open API to allow third party integrations truly empowering the connected smart city and cross vertical benefits from IoT through lighting infrastructure!

Q: What is your startup story? How did the idea behind Gooee come about?

A: Seeing the world of lighting go from traditional light sources to digital LED and the far greater ability to control and add electronic complexity – Gooee saw an opportunity to bring IoT to the lighting world, utilising the ubiquity of lighting to deploy more nodes in more places than any other IoT platform. Thus allowing far greater data collection which can be leveraged by many to improve and benefit from!

Q: You’ve announced recently a partnership with Leedarson; tell us something more?

A: Gooee is always looking for mutually beneficial partnerships, to allow our offer to the lighting world to be better and more accessible as well as looking beyond lighting and how we can gain different data sets and cross use the different data streams for innovative insights never seen before or brought together

Q: What’s the best thing about your technology that people might not know about?

A: We have developed our own ASIC sensors to allow the collection of many data-sets such as motion, motion vector, local temperature, ambient light level, light intensity and light colour from chips that can be integrated into light fixtures anonymously and cost effectively…which quite simply cannot be done today with current sensing technologies!!

Q: You’ve recently announced $8 Million funding round; what are your plans?

A: We plan to bring our platform and hardware to market in 2017. The funding helps us deliver, test and develop all the different parts of the stack so that our offering meets the needs of the market. We want to grow and scale quickly as the platform has been designed to manage millions upon millions of end points globally and that’s where we want to be!
