How To Use SnapChat Geofilters On Demand
Snapchat’s Geofilters have quickly established their place in the average Snapchat user’s arsenal, and have allowed the Snapchat community to show off their creativity in creating new filters daily, leading to nearly half a million filters being currently available. While originally intended to be used solely for public spaces, a large amount of interest lead to the development of Snapchat Geofilters On Demand; a paid service which will allow users to create a Snapchat Geofilters for businesses and their promotions, and for private events such as weddings, birthdays, and many more. The pricing varies with a number of factors, including the time you want the filter to be available for and the area you want it to cover, starting at $5 per 20,000 square feet, per hour.
How it works:
First you will need to design your Geofilter, making sure it follows the submission guidelines; it must be at 1080px wide by 1920px high, less than 300KB in size, and saved as a .PNG file with a transparent background. Illustrator and Photoshop are recommended for creating your filter, and Snapchat also provides a number of templates that are compatible with both programs. There is a preview tool that will show you what the design will look like on different devices. Snapchat recommends making sure that the design is compelling and creative, without covering too much of the screen.
After creating your filter, you need to select the time and area or “Geofence” that you want your filter to be available in. You should note that the default time is set for 02:00 to 03:00 rather than 24 hours, so take care to change this. Your geofence must be at least 20,000 square feet.
Once you have selected your time and area, Snapchat asks you to enter your payment details. Once all the information is submitted, you will receive and email informing you that your Geofilter is under review, and will be approved or declined by the next business day at the latest, after which you will receive an email saying your Geofilter is approved. When your Geofilter goes live you will also receive an email letting you know.
Currently On Demand Geofilters are available in the UK, US and Canada, but Snapchat is looking to expand this very soon.
Please note that for business Geofilters, you must have legal permission to use any logos or branding in the filter.
