Inbox Launches Brand New Mail Apps, Build On The Inbox APIs

Listen to this article

Since our last interview with Michael Grinich from Inbox startup team, exciting things happen at Inbox. Earlier this week we caught up with Michael to discuss their progress and plans for the future; We asked him what is new about Inbox:

Michael Grinich: This week we are launching some pretty awesome stuff:

  • Brand new mail apps, build on the Inbox APIs. This is huge, and will usher in a new wave of innovation for email. They are completely open source scaffolds for developers to build rich apps on top of. Say goodbye to hacked-together Gmail/browser extensions.
  • Production Tier with pricing — this is a hosted version of the Inbox API that developers are already shipping apps with. We deal with syncing and storing mail data. We’re announcing the pricing for the first time publicly.
  • Our hosted version also includes full support for Microsoft ActiveSync (including contacts and calendar). This is *huge* for developers targeting the enterprise markets

  • Inbox now supports pretty much every provider. (We previously launched with only Gmail+Yahoo).
  • We added calendar APIs a few weeks ago. This is pretty awesome for developers, since mail and calendar workflows are so closely related.
  • We invited a bunch of early folks to the Inbox Developer Program, which costs $99 annually and lets developer sync up to 10 accounts. This is a staging ground, where apps can be build and tested with the hosted version of the API.
  • The open source repo is thriving, and has over 1500 stars on GitHub
