Q: David, tell us something more about Karamba Security?

A: Karamba was founded in 2015 by cybersecurity and business experienced teams to learn and address the automotive cybersecurity market. The company has come up with a different solution than common datacenter cybersecurity solutions, to address the unique aspects of the car industry, namely, consumer safety above all.

Since coming out of stealth, in end of March 2016, the company has been actively engaged with 16 different projects throughout the industry.

Karamba’s solution was awarded Most Innovative Product for the Automotive Industry in 2017, by Frost & Sullivan and Best Auto Cybersecurity Product for 2017 by TU-Automotive.

Q: How exactly does Carwall software work?

A: Carwall software automatically hardens the car’s externally connected controllers, such as infotainment, navigation and the like, according to the their factory settings. In runtime Carwall inspects the operations running on the controller. Anything which is not part of factory settings must be a hacker trying to infiltrate the car by changing the controller, and is deterministically blocked out of the car.

Q: Who are the primary clients of Karamba Security?

A: Karamba Security’s current customers are car manufacturers and teir-1 providers of car systems.

Q: Do you think that security will be the main problem of autonomous cars of the future, and why?

A: Hacking history proves that once systems become externally connected, they become targets for hackers. As the former Assistant Attorney General said in April 2016 and as the FBI publicly warned in March 2016, cars are the next battlefield for criminal and terrorist organizations. The reason is the sheer scale of one attack on cars.

We don’t know if security will be the main problem, but it is definitely top of mind of car companies as an enabler for autonomous driving, which is expected to be 15% of all shipped cars in 2020 and 70% of all shipped cars in 2025.
