SceneDoc Is Giving Law Enforcement Back Precious Time To Serve Communities Across The Globe

Listen to this article

SceneDoc and its family of products, is public safety’s first all-in-one mobile software for data collection and retrieval. SceneDoc Collect, the overarching platform, provides public safety professionals with the ability to securely collect eNotes, eForms, create sketches and reports, and capture audio, video, and photos.

SceneDoc is saving officers over an hour of paperwork per shift, resulting in less time reporting and more time keeping the communities they serve safe.

Below is our interview with Alex Kottoor, Chairman & CEO at SceneDoc:

Q: Alex, who are the primary users of SceneDoc solutions and what are some of the key challenges you are helping them solve?

A: Law enforcement agencies across the globe whether small or large or somewhere in between.

Any officer who collects data, supervisors or other officers who reap benefits from searching richer data, ie intelligence at the scene of a crime. This could mean notes, photos, video or even voice recordings that can be helpful in supporting a specific case.

Police officers are expected to capture and maintain copious notes with respect to all contact they have with the public or any details of a scene they encounter. Currently, officers keep a paper notebook containing a wealth of intelligence about suspects, suspicious circumstances and crime in general. If an office is diligent about this exercise, the notebook is used routinely and as part of standard operating procedure, and once exhausted, its filed away in a desk or locker, with the hopes of retrieving critical information should a case go to trial. Copies would be made and pages of notes reproduced for the court and any other relevant parties to read. The same process would apply with Photographs, video or any other scene intelligence collected in any specific case. The process of searching for and reproducing these documents is not only arduous and inefficient, but there is much room for error.

With SceneDoc Collect these challenges are easily overcome. All data or scene intelligence is entered through a department owned or personal mobile device, such as a laptop, smart phone or tablet, and the Collect platform houses this data and allows administrators to see the data in real time. This data connects to the back office and to the RMS of any department allowing it to be queried immediately after it has been entered.

With SceneDoc’s eCitation platform, a similar law enforcement challenge is addressed. The majority of patrol officers across the globe are still writing traffic citations by hand, and then re-entering the same citation data multiple times in order to get it into the agency’s RMS and court system. According to public data, almost 2/3 of law enforcement agencies in the US still issue handwritten citations or summons’. Some departments have implemented eCitations, however many of them still utilize laptops or heavy hand held devices. SceneDoc eCitations’ state of the art technology allows patrol officers to enter data through any device including but optimized for smartphones and tablets. This allows officers to use one device rather than multiple devices to perform multiple functions throughout the day.

SceneDoc also takes security seriously and is not only CJIS compliant, but has developed a platform wherein data never co-mingles with other data contained on the hardware and at all time remains encrypted. If agencies choose to allow personal smart device usage, the application is safe and secure as data does not persist on the mobile device once an officer completes a data collection task.

eCitations save time at every stage of the citation process and increases productivity as well as revenues. More importantly it takes officers off the roads thereby increasing officer safety. In 2016 officer fatalities increased by 21% over the previous year, 13% were related to traffic-related. eCitations decreases the amount of time necessary to administer a traffic citation, by at least one hour per officer per shift. Many departments have even noticed that the required time to write a citation was reduced by at least 50% when utilizing SceneDoc eCitations.

Q: You’ve recently announced availability of SceneDoc V4.1, an autonomous module for eCitations at IACP 2016; tell us something more? D. What is unique about SceneDoc’ technology and how does it stand out from competition?

A: eCitations was recently launched (2016), but early feedback from the market has been incredible. SceneDoc recently joined the eCitation Coalition and will be included in the analysis on eCitations- Guidelines for Evaluating and Implementing eCitation Systems. SceneDoc is new to eCitations, but the move into this part of the market is quite organic given the company’s routes in ‘mobile first’ data collection for law enforcement. SceneDoc eCitations surpasses any other players in the market by offering the same functionality, but over and above, SceneDoc eCitations:

1. Allows officers to utilize one device rather than carry many different devices to carry out different functions throughout their day.
2. Ultimately an agency will have scalability and therefore a predictable cost model to be able to expand on the software capabilities through their singular smart device.
3. Most critically, SceneDoc eCitations offers real time query or search capability. Once a citation is issued, it becomes instantaneously searchable, actionable and discoverable by anyone else in the agency. (assuming one has been granted the right security privileges!)

Q: What’s the achievement SceneDoc is most proud of?

A: SceneDoc as an organization has spent over four years developing state-of-the art solutions that are truly built for ease-of-use. The company creates time savings, safe and simple software to collect, connect and retrieve data in the most sophisticated way available on the market today and it is scalable for the long term. We are most proud of our ability to reduce 50% of an officer’s time spent on administration functions. The SceneDoc team is proud to contribute to law enforcement through automation and evolving public safety mobility. SceneDoc is giving law enforcement back the precious time needed to rebuild, protect and serve communities across the globe.
