Christian LundQ: Christian, Templafy was founded in 2013, what is your startup story?

A: Templafy was launched in 2013 as a spin-off from our former company, SkabelonDesign. At SkabelonDesign, co-founder and Templafy CTO, Henrik Printzlau and I, along with our other partners, had been providing template management solutions to more than 700 companies globally for more than 10 years.

We recognised that many enterprises were struggling to maintain visual and legal control over their document templates as more and more employees accessed them on their tablets and phones and from various platforms. Off-brand assets were being used and contracts were going out with out-of-date disclaimers. The problem needed a cloud-first approach, so we set to work on the first tech-driven solution to address these pain points. And so Templafy was born. We had all the expertise and experience around template management and now we have the technology to provide a game-changing product.

Q: Tell us something more about your solution? How it works?

A: Templafy is essentially a branding and compliance tool. It simplifies how companies create, handle and share document templates and personalizes them for every employee.

Q: What are main benefits of using it?

A: Visual and legal compliance is the key, obvious benefit. Templafy ensures all current and all future employee-produced business documents, presentations, assets, etc. are up-to-date, on-brand and following the rules. Even if an employee opens an old document they’d saved to their desktop months earlier, Templafy will alert them if updates are required.

Another big advantage is that all the company templates are stored in one central location for quick access and a painless search. If an admin needs to change a logo or the wording on a disclaimer because new regulations have come in, they only need to do so once, in one location, and it will be immediately available to all staff. Or if a user needs to build a new presentation deck, all the best practice slide templates, images, text snips and necessary assets can be found in just one interface. Templafy is a one-stop source that integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Office, Office 365, Google Drive and on any user device.

Q: Who is your ideal customer and why?

A: I’ve always experienced that no matter who I speak to about Templafy, whether it’s a potential customer or a new acquaintance, everybody recognises the document anarchy pain Templafy solves. Most office workers have wasted too much time putting together presentations, hunting for the correct elements, and many a Brand Manager has lamented these often incorrect attempts. You could argue that everyone in the professional sector needs Templafy.

While most businesses have these problems, it’s enterprise customers that can benefit the most from our solution. The ones with multiple countries, languages, brands or legal codes to grapple with. Solving visual and legal compliance for them is business critical. Financial institutions have lost millions in the past because of non-compliant contracts that went out to customers. But any industry can recognise the need to have these processes simplified.

Within the enterprise, Communications, Compliance and Marketing teams have the most identifiable need for Templafy; that’s pretty obvious. But we’re also really useful to IT teams who are trying to move away from legacy architecture or can’t digitize processes because they don’t know what to do about their old templates. We remove the roadblocks in these processes and make the way to eventual cloud adoption much easier.

Q: You’ve recently announced your latest investment, what are your plans?

A: It’s been a really exciting time for Templafy and we’ve been really humbled and encouraged by the investments, awards, customers, partnerships and talent we’ve secured. We’re operating in an almost untouched global market with more than one billion enterprise users of the Office suite alone – many of whom are currently moving to cloud-based versions. What are our plans? Nothing less than owning that market.
