Q: Jani, what are main benefits of using Transfluent?

A: Transfluent provides agency quality translation from a convenient web-based interface, as fast as humanly possible. Compared to traditional translation agencies we’re very easy to use, and you often get the translation in the same day as opposed to being a pain to place and order and having to wait couple weeks for the results. Our translators are the same people working for the traditional agencies, so you get the same high quality in virtually any language.

Q: What makes Transfluent a good choice for gaming companies?

A: We have a strong dedicated gaming translation team that handles all game translation projects. The reason for having such focus on gaming comes from our roots. Transfluent was founded in Finland, which is a hotbed of game development. Actually, prior to founding Transfluent I used to be a game developer, so I have been on both sides of the table. As a result, many of our early customers were game companies and we had to focus on building expertise in game translation early on.

Q: Could you explain advantages of your translation widget?

A: The translation widget really is the key to our service. It’s very easy to request a translation of any type of file using the widget – just drag and drop a file, choose what languages you want to target, and the completed translation appears in your email shortly after. The widget knows what you’ve translated previously, so if you update your game, for example, you just need to drop the new resource file in and you will receive a fully translated copy but only pay for whatever has changed. Plus, it supports user privileges for the whole team so everyone will be able to request translations on their own when they have a need.

Q: Could you tell us something more about your new referral program?

A: The referral program is really straightforward. You invite people using a link that we give you, and anyone who joins starts accruing referral bonus for you for 3 months from their joining. Once they spend $100, you will have earned a $100 bonus. As they spend more, you reach new tiers and eventually your reward can reach $1,000 for each referred customer. Based on historical data, around 1 out of 7 new customers ends up at the top tier. The only caveat is that the payout is in translation credits, not cash, but we’re trying to be very clear about that in all promotion to avoid misunderstandings.

We’ll actually lose money initially, but we have such tremendous track record of keeping customers happy that it’s a risk we are willing to take. Our best customers come from referrals already, so we want to encourage referrals as much as possible. And of course, there’s the goodwill part to the story as well. A lot of smaller companies, game developers especially, have approached us asking for discounted pricing. Most of the money goes directly to the translators, so we really can’t offer big discounts. Our translators are amazing, so you get what you pay for, but I understand if someone cannot afford it. With this new referral program they now have a way to earn free translations by spreading the word and introducing us to people they know. We grow our business, they get free translations, everyone wins.

Q: What are your plans for next six months?

A: We’ll keep iterating our products, making the service better, while continuing to grow the business. Rather than planning to introduce new products, we’re going to keep making the widget better, to continuously wow our users with the experience. Translating has traditionally been something people are afraid of, because it has always been rather tedious, and we want to make it fun and engaging. Everyone should be happy to get their documents translated to any languages they target. Happy customers, very dedicated customer service team, that’s what we are focused on.
