Troops Raises $6.95 Million, Plans To Invest In Product, Engineering And Customer Success

For modern sales teams who use Salesforce, Slack, and Google Apps, Troops is a Slackbot that makes it easy to use CRM data and configure work flow to do your job. Troops lets you instantly push and pull customer and sales information in and out of Slack, making it the sales hub for both you and your team. The company has recently raised $6.95 million funding round and as they say, their main focus is to have a great product that customers want and are excited to use.

Below is our interview with Dan Reich, Co-Founder & CEO at Troops:

Q: Dan, tell us Troops’s startup story?

A: When we started Troops we did so with a very simple idea: Let’s solve a big problem that we’ve personally encountered and let’s do so with people that we want to spend time with. At the end of the day, my co-founders and I agree that life is short and that the only thing you can really control in life is who you spend your time with. We figured, if we optimize for happiness and people, then we would be successful. If we tried to do the reverse and optimize for success, then we would not be as fulfilled or as happy and that would ultimately undermine what we were trying to do.

That brings us to our mission and what we are up to. At Troops, we fundamentally believe that the future of “getting things done” is going to look a lot less like static fields and forms, and more like a conversation with a human being… an intelligent one for that matter! It seemed crazy to us that in a world with self driving cars, we are still using software for work that looks like it was from the 90’s. We figured, if we can make this software delightful, people might actually use it and dare I say, enjoy it. And how amazing would it be if tens of millions of people around the world doing work, could actually do so with a little more enjoyment? That seemed like a mission and vision worth pursuing.

Q: Could you please give us more insights into Troops’s functionality?

A: For modern sales teams who use Salesforce, Slack, and Google Apps, Troops is a Slackbot that makes it easy to use CRM data and configure work flow to do your job. Unlike trudging through CRM directly, Troops lets you instantly push and pull customer and sales information in and out of Slack, making it the sales hub for both you and your team. It’s “Conversational CRM” and it creates more efficiency and workflow for organizations so that they can spend their time focused on the most important functions like closing deals and making their customers happy.

Q: Which customers benefit from your Slack Bot and how?

A: We are working with hundreds of organizations now. We get this question a lot which led us to publish this piece titled “13 Slack Tips & Use Cases From Sales Teams On Slack”. It talks about some of these examples, but one of my favorites so far is with a company called Smart Recruiters. Their head of sales described it to us like this: “Getting a Troops sales gong alert in Slack is huge. Not only is the team kept up to date with important wins in real-time, but it’s done in a way that is actually fun and engaging. I’ve never had anything like this before.” I love this quote because we work hard to make sure the product is great but also fun and delightful. After all, who said work can’t be fun?

Q: What are your key features?

A: We currenty support four high level features which are Reports, Sales Gong, Search and Alerts. They let our customers do the following:

  • Reports: Configure Salesforce reports to be delivered through Slack.
  • Sales Gong: Communicate and celebrate deal wins with your team in Slack.
  • Search: Pull Salesforce data for all standard and custom objects in Slack.
  • Alerts: Never drop the ball on your most important deals in Salesforce.

Q: You’ve recently announced a $6.95 million series A funding round; what are your plans?

A: We will be investing heavily in product, engineering and customer success. Our number one focus is that we have a great product that our customers want and are excited to use. Without that, nothing else matters and we are maniacle about making sure our customers are successful and happy.
