Q: How did ValoraLife start?

A: A couple of years ago, it became very clear to MassMutual that middle income consumers, more specifically Latino households with $50K-$100K, were not purchasing life insurance. Though they found it important to protect their family, Latino Millennials lacked a deep understanding of the benefits a life insurance policy could provide. Thus, making the whole topic intimidating and not a priority.

A business decision was made to focus on the Latino consumer through a series of educational efforts, plus a website that made life insurance easy to understand and purchase. In June 2016, ValoraLife was launched in Houston, Texas with a team of experts who really understand the Latino community and their need for a convenient, affordable option.

As a subsidiary to MassMutual, ValoraLife is providing a simple, affordable and online solution to purchasing life insurance in English and Spanish. The brand has already expanded to 14 additional states, and will continue to expand throughout the year.

Q: What makes ValoraLife a good choice?

A: ValoraLife was designed by the consumer. Meaning, we interviewed people and heard what it was that they liked and disliked about the life insurance buying process. From there, we used our resources to create something that was simple to use, affordable and could be done from the comfort of ones home.

We’re simple because we narrowed down the product list to two options, ValoraLife Term and ValoraLife Term Plus. Both are easy to understand and simple to apply for, but one offers policyholders a return on their premiums if they outlive the term of their policy.

We’re affordable because consumers have control over how much coverage they want based on their personal budget.

Q: What milestones can we expect from you over the next 12 months?

A: This year we are focusing on improving certain features of our website to make the learning and buying process even more simple. This includes changes to the content, design and even the underwriting process. For example, if all goes well, in July we will be launching our “fluidless” process. This means that healthy applicants can bypass the medical exam and get their final result even faster. It’s like a reward for living a healthy lifestyle.
