6 River Systems is the new way warehouses of tomorrow fulfill business. Their autonomous mobile robot Chuck works with warehouse associates, not against them, to make your warehouse production more efficient. They offer a flexible solution that is half the cost of traditional automation. Chuck lets you ramp your business without razing your warehouse. The founders were part of the leadership team at Kiva Systems, which was eventually acquired by Amazon, and is now known as Amazon Robotics. Below is our recent interview with Fergal Glynn, VP Marketing at 6 River Systems:

Fergal Glynn

Q: You’ve recently announced $25 Million in Series B funding round; could you tell us something more?

A: Sure. The latest round of funding was led by Menlo Ventures, a new partner joining our investment team. They’re very excited to be entering the robotics space with us.

This funding will help us accelerate our business goals this year. We will be putting the money towards developing hardware and software upgrades, and rapidly scaling our team to add 80+ employees in the next 12 months.

Q: What’s the main idea behind Chuck?

A: Chuck is a mobile robot powered by cloud software. He works alongside all the systems and tools that warehouses are already using. A group of Chucks lead associates through their work, pacing them to achieve higher productivity. The Chuck bots use artificial intelligence to prioritize work, spots risk and improve your resource utilization. Much like Google Maps, he finds the best routes for your workflow. He also helps reduce human error, showing associates exactly where items are located using lighting and pictures.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in launching your business and how did you overcome it?

A: One of the biggest challenges we face is just getting the word out that there’s a solution outside of sending all things to Amazon and tearing down your warehouse to install big, intrusive automation systems. 6 River Systems really breaks the mold. We enable operators to get the benefits of automation with the flexibility of something far more transactional.

Q: What are your plans moving forward?

A: We’ll be aggressively pursuing our goals to get Chuck in 600 sites this year. We’ll also be hiring rapidly, and focus on building a great culture here in Waltham, where we have access to amazing Boston talent.
