Accelo runs the operations in your business, and uses smart technology to automate those operations, in the same way that HubSpot and Salesforce automated marketing and sales, Accelo is doing that but for operations. Operations is the area where a business creates value for its clients and delivers their expertise through services, and the challenge for these businesses is that this traditionally meant either going out and buying old, manual, clunky technology like Practice Management software or PSA software, or buying half a dozen modern tools like separate systems for tickets, projects, and billing – and then you’d have no idea what was really going on in your operations until it was too late to do anything about it. Accelo automates all of this through ServOps to give power back to any small to medium-sized business in the service sector to run a streamlined, profitable business. Below is our interview with Geoff McQueen, CEO and Co-founder at Accelo:
Q: You announced $9 Million Series A funding round last year; could you tell us something more?
A: It was led by the great guys at Level Equity in NYC, with participation from Fathom Capital and existing investor Blackbird Ventures. The reason for raising this round, even though the business was profitable, was to enable us to finally give small to medium-sized business the tools they deserve to run their operations with confidence and eliminate the chaos they feel every single day. In conjunction with this announcement we’ve also launched a new category called Service Operations Automation which is all about bringing the power of the cloud to bear when it comes to running any business, specifically around the operations of a service business which is generally made up of projects, tickets, retainers, time, billing, profitability, and utilization – so we’re bringing all those things together with ServOps to answer the simple but challenging question of ‘what happened today?’ So, what we’ve created with ServOps is the ability to run your business with confidence, double your profitability, and increase utilization.

Q: Who are the primary clients of Accelo?
A: Our primary clients are businesses and teams in the professional service sector. So that includes digital agencies, accountants, architects, designers, and consultants; anyone creating value for their business and clients. We also service teams within larger organizations – so here in Silicon Valley it’s the tech companies who have a service team who need to implement part of a product or offering, and they’re just as important to us as any service business.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: There are millions and millions of businesses and teams around the world in the service sector so we’re just getting started. The bottom line is that these folks account for 1 in 6 jobs in the private sector yet they have all had to deal with crappy, old software, or they’ve had to try and customize their own solution. But we understand that these professionals are too busy for that – they’re flat out trying to put food on the table, they’re working 80 weeks and not taking any vacation, and they need help. We’re all about giving these people the system they need to be successful and that’s what’s important to us in the future.
