An Interview With Jacklyn Hopkins, Senior Marketing Consultant At Club Vita

Below is our recent interview with Jacklyn Hopkins, Senior Marketing Consultant at Club Vita:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: Club Vita is a longevity data analytics company, which facilitates the pooling and statistical analysis of demographic data from defined benefit (“DB”) pension and retiree health plans to reveal insights that would not be evident to the plans acting alone. We have served the needs of plan sponsors and their advisors in the UK and Canada since 2008 and 2015 respectively, with datasets now covering 1 in 4 of all retirees in receipt of DB pensions in both countries. We set up operations in the U.S. in 2019, and have now built a data set tracking the varied survival patterns in over 1.5m U.S. retirees.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: Following a number of relationships with U.S. actuarial advisors, the recent announcement marks our new collaboration with NISA Investment Advisors, which will give NISA’s clients access to our innovative longevity analytics. NISA is a recognized leader in innovative institutional investment solutions and we are very excited to collaborate in integrating longevity risk into NISA’s market-leading approach to liability-driven investments for pension plans.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: There is a huge diversity of experience within the US population, including when it comes to life expectancy/longevity. Our data pooling service and innovative analytics allow pension plans and insurers to understand this diversity. Our team has designed, built and refined ZIP code-based multi-factor socio-economic models for understanding the differences in longevity, enabling plan sponsors to tailor their assumptions to the specific characteristics of their plan’s participants which helps to better define the pattern of future cash flows. This increased understanding of a pension plan’s specific longevity profile will enable NISA to implement even more effective solutions for pension plans to holistically manage their risks.

Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: As we continue to build our data set, we will complete further statistical analysis for the benefit of all our subscribers. Over the next 6 months, our goal is to refine analysis on the differences in longevity improvements between socio-economic groups. Understanding possible future changes to life expectancy and, therefore, better understanding the pattern of future payments, is key for the effective risk management of a pension plan’s funding strategy.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: Our company name raises a few eyebrows. We were not, in fact, named after a vacation timeshare, a sports team or a health club. The “Club” in our name is to signify that we bring together a community of organizations with a shared interest in longevity and belief that the ‘bigger’ the data, the lower the (statistical) noise. And “Vita” is Latin for “life”.
