Interview with James Adams, the Founder of Ackolyte Consulting:
Q: James, tell us something more about your company?
A: Ackolyte Consulting is a US-based, dedicated Advanced tier AWS consulting firm that runs on a regional model. That means our teams are organized around client locations to enable the best of both remote and in-person worlds. Our employees enjoy remote work on a daily basis, but are able to get together with clients or their team in person to accelerate relationships and projects.
Our initial focus at Ackolyte is to help our clients migrate from data centers or entry-level clouds to AWS, modernize their applications to take full advantage of the cloud, and to make optimal use of their data to become data-driven businesses.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: I have scaled the cloud units of two other notable AWS partners. That experience has led me to what I believe is the right formula to attract top talent and provide the environment for them to do amazing things for our clients—while having a bit of fun along the way.
The reality is that COVID changed everything. People want to enjoy the balance that remote work brings. The key is to blend that with the ability to be physically near your clients and team so those relationships can be fostered.
It’s partially why I chose to base our team exclusively in the United States. Time zones are important. If a client is on the west coast and encounters an issue, they don’t want to wait until the next day for answers because the team serving their account is gone for the day.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: AWS is the gold standard for public and government cloud. We help companies migrate to AWS and use cloud native tooling to make maximum use of it. We then help them organize their data in such a way that they can start making data-driven decisions about their business. An example of this might be a seasonal business that would now have the ability to predict the items they need in inventory more accurately, enabling them to maximize their profits.
Private equity and venture capital firms are cutting back on investments to portfolio companies, which has shifted the focus to margins. We are partnering with these firms to offer discounts to their portfolio companies to give them a strong path forward until investment conditions improve.
Because we only focus on AWS, we can do all of this in a way that is cost effective and provides robust value to the organization. This allows their engineering team to focus on building features and driving revenue instead of spending their time managing infrastructure.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We have some pretty ambitious goals, but I know we have the team in place to make them a reality. Ackolyte plans on becoming Premier tier status with AWS and being recognized as an employer of choice in the next six months.
From an offering perspective, we’ll expand our services to include areas like cloud security, cloud native application development, and digital experience design. Extended reality, a personal passion of mine, will be next up on the docket—followed by creating digital production pipelines on the cloud.
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We hire people who like to build things. We’re doing that with the best talent and the best cloud platform on the planet.
Collectively, we chase happiness. We know that revenue will flow from that. We have found that sweet spot between fun and professionalism. Our philosophy is that you hire the best people, create an environment for them to enjoy themselves and feel supported, and then you get out of their way and allow them to do their best work.
