Below is our recent interview with Susan Frew, the Founder and CEO of Sunshine Plumbing Heating Air:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Thriftinista?
A: I own a plumbing heating and air conditioning business and am also a professional speaker. People have always complimented my clothing whether in town or on the road. 90% of my wardrobe comes from thrift stores. Women wanted to know HOW to thrift. Thriftinistateaches them how while raising money for non profits. We get a bus, breakfast, lunch and snacks donated and we take 40 women on a bus, to store to store and teach women how to thrift. The money for the ticket (around $50) is collected and donated to a charity. We raised over 10,000 in 2018.
Q: How did you come up to the idea for Thriftinista?
A: My marketing company led by Melodie Regan realized that 80% of our pllumbing and heating customers were women because we are a woman owned company. We started Thriftinista to 1- raise money for non profits 2- teach women how to thrift and 3- expose the Sunshine Plumbing Heating Air Brand through Thriftinista.
Q: What exactly is the skill of “thrifting”, and how do you learn it?
A: I learned during the recession, I was a big shopper before and during the recession, I became a “recessionista” and found the same clothing for a fraction of the cost.
Q: What’s the best thing about Thriftinista that people might not know about?
A: That we raise money on every bus trip.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: To do 3-4 trips per year and to exceed the 10,000 for worthy nonprofits in the Denver Metro Area.
