Birdytell team created something they wanted to use in their lives. How many times have you gone to buy something for your mom, dad, sister, wife, husband and had no idea what to get?
Our recent interview below is with Lisa Morrow, Founder & CEO of Birdytell:
Q: What is Birdytell?
A: Birdytell is a place where friends and family learn about one another and purchase meaningful gifts for every special occasion. It is a fun, easy way to let those you care most about know about the things you want, places you hope to visit, and even clue them in on what is on your bucket list. We simplify gifting and hope to bring people closer by learning more about one another.
Q: What was your inspiration for making it?
A: I was at work and received a text from my stepmom asking what my husband wanted for Christmas. I repeated the usual gift idea (golf shirt) as I do to everyone who asks me that question. I felt bad knowing my husband would receive another round of golf shirts from relatives and wondered why there wasn’t a better solution to the gifting dilemma. A few minutes later the whole site came to mind and I jotted it down on a piece of paper and told my husband about it when I got home. He loved it and we came up with the name and we got to work and started making it happen.
Q: How long did it take to put together Birdytell?
A: I had the idea the 2nd week of December 2012 and we hit the ground running. Most of our team was assembled and we started working mid-February 2013.
Q: How big your team is at the moment?
A: We have a team of 7 and we all have families. We are very passionate about creating something useful for people just like us.
Q: How does Birdytell generate revenues?
A: Currently, our revenues are generated via affiliate marketing. Our site is and always will be free for our community.
Q: Is it possible for businesses to use it?
A: Yes! Very soon we will have retail pages that feature awesome gifts. We have other incredible ways we plan to work with businesses, but you will have to wait and see what we have up our sleeves. :)
Q: What can Birdytell users expect in 2014, and what’s your favorite upcoming feature?
A: We have a lot in store for 2014. We hope to be out of beta in two months, so watch for upcoming design improvements. We are beginning to work on our mobile app and we have several snappy features to make gifting even more fun and simple! My favorite feature will be released very soon. We are debuting Peeps this month. Parents will be able to add visual gift lists for children under 13 to their profile. This is a win-win for families since parents do not have to cut and paste a ton of retail links and attach them to email or waste time returning duplicate gifts. It will be a snap to simply capture all the items their child wants and share them with their friends and family.Activate Social Media:
