Capital.com Aims To Take The Complexity Out Of Investing And Empower More People To Participate In Financial Markets

Below is our recent interview with Jonathan Squires, CEO at Capital.com:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: Sure, I’ll try to keep it to a few words. Capital.com is a fast-growing investment trading platform based in Europe. Our mission is simple – to take the complexity out of investing and empower more people to confidently participate in financial markets. We believe that everyone, with the right amount of research and online learning support, can learn to trade.

This is why we built a web and mobile-based platform that is simple to use, fairly priced and equipped with large amounts of educational content.

Our laser-sharp focus on education and technology is truly one of the things that make us different. And don’t just take our word for it, TradingView voted us ‘Most Innovative Tech 2021’. So ingrained in our DNAare these elements that we are planning to launch a new AI-tool to help coach traders and investors so that they may identify common psychological mistakes and ‘unlearn’ bad habits that may be impacting their trading strategy.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: As you can see, there is quite a lot to talk about!

The first thing we have to highlight is our incredible growth trajectory. In 2021, 4.23 million users registered on our platform… that is pretty much the same population as Los Angeles! And to make another interesting comparison, last year we surpassed 560bn dollars in volume traded on our platform, more than Belgium’s gross domestic product. Our employee headcount has also grown in tandem, increasing almost five-fold in 2021.

Even as global lockdowns lifted and social life went back to normal, our growth indicators have not suffered. I think this is a testament to our unwavering client-first mentality and our unrelenting push for innovation, reinforced by Investment Trends naming us the best leveraged trading platform in the UK for overall client satisfaction , education materials and mobile app. These results are encouraging for us and stand us in good stead to pursue our longer term goals of expanding into new markets and diversifying into new products and solutions. We have already made significant steps forward in 2021, including expanding into Australia as an ASIC-registered broker, diversifying beyond CFD trading to offer our clients direct stock investing, and added 2000 new tradable instruments to our platform.

It’s fair to say it won’t be easy to match last year’s growth, but we have a lot in the pipeline for 2022 already, and we can’t wait to show everyone.

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: We always strive to be an innovator in our industry and what we have planned for the next few months is incredibly exciting.

We know that each individual consumes information differently, which is why we are developing a dedicated AI solution to better understand client behaviour and to create a more personalised trading experience. Trading behaviour is a result of a diverse range of factors ranging from behavioural biases and market knowledge to risk appetite and emotions. Using our algorithm we can help traders understand the unconscious processes informing their decisions, identify some of their weaknesses and knowledge gaps and provide them with the bespoke feedback and training to help them overcome those weaknesses. This will be a key initiative for us this year and a key component of how we will further support our clients with the tools they need to help them learn to trade and invest in financial markets. We already offer clients access to a demo site, regular news feed, as well as more than 5,000 pages of intelligent financial content and analysis available on our website and Youtube trading channel, Capital.com TV. We also offer anyone who wants to learn to trade a free educational app that they can use on the go – Investmate.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: Not many people know this, but we started our life as a mobile-only trading platform. This speaks to our vision and our technology – we believe that the way in which people trade and invest is changing and with the advent of mobile technology and online commerce, everything can be done on-the-go and at the touch of a button. Seeing this early trend in changing investor behaviour and believing in a future where trading and investing should be simple, convenient and secure, we went on to develop a multi-channel trading platform with seamless user experience.
