CBD Hacker Helps Consumers Navigate The Often-Confusing And Unregulated CBD Industry

Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Meg Kramer, Managing Editor of CBD Hacker:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe CBD Hacker?

A: CBD Hacker’s mission is to help consumers navigate the often-confusing and unregulated CBD industry.

With cannabidiol’s growing popularity, the CBD industry is racing to catch up. And while there are a lot of great brands in the market, there are also unscrupulous companies selling products that are mislabeled or even contaminated with harmful additives.

We battle the misinformation by offering up-to-date, evidence-based information about CBD. We keep our readers informed about the latest CBD news.

Perhaps most importantly, we have an extremely rigorous procedure for our CBD oil reviews.

When we evaluate a CBD product, we put it through third-party lab tests to make sure that it contains the amount of CBD that’s listed on the label. Then, we use a blind taste-testing process to eliminate any unconscious bias. Our team calls and emails the brand’s service representatives to see how they treat their customers. And finally, we analyze each product’s price point and ingredients to find the CBD products that offer the best value.

We want to make sure that when we recommend a product to our readers, they’re going to have a good experience with that brand.

Q: You’ve recently ranked the best 5 affordable CBD oils for 2019; could you tell us something more?

A: The ranking of the best affordable CBD oils came from an analysis of about three dozen popular CBD brands. Every time we do this kind of project, we are pleased to find that some of the brands that offer the best prices are also among our highest-rated brands for quality and customer service.

Since we released the affordable CBD oil ranking, we’ve also published an in-depth guide to using CBD for stress and anxiety.

For this one, we investigated the latest research on CBD and anxiety, and delved into how to choose a product and find the right dosage. And, of course, we offer a few recommendations to highlight CBD products that may have specific stress-busting properties.

Q: What is CBD oil? What makes it so good?

A: CBD is short for cannabidiol, and it is one member of a group of natural, cannabis-derived substances known as cannabinoids.

For decades, all cannabis plants, even non-intoxicating industrial hemp, were considered a controlled substance in the United States. That made studying the health applications of cannabis extremely difficult, even though there is a body of anecdotal evidence supporting its use for different conditions.

In recent years, though, researchers have increasingly focused on the medicinal potential of CBD and other cannabinoids for a variety of health conditions. From insomnia to pain and anxiety to acne, CBD is an exciting target for medical research.

This broad range of possible applications is due to the fact that cannabinoids interact with a system of chemicals and receptors in the body called the endocannabinoid system. Endocannabinoid receptors exist in tissues throughout the body, including the organs, immune cells, and in the skin.

CBD in particular is an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. The FDA has even approved it — in the form of the drug Epidiolex — for two rare, difficult-to-treat seizure disorders.

Q: Why is it so hard to find USDA-Certified organic CBD?

A: That’s a great question! Hemp is a bioaccumulator that does a great job of absorbing whatever is is the soil where its grown. So, if the ground is contaminated with chemicals or heavy metals, the hemp will soak that up.

It’s great for cleaning the soil, but when you extract CBD oil, those contaminants are coming along for the ride. This makes organic practices super important for producing clean hemp-derived CBD oil.

For a CBD product to receive organic certification, it has to be made from organic hemp. And not too long ago, it was very difficult for American hemp growers to obtain organic certification.

Regulatory changes resulting from the 2018 Farm Bill may eventually make it easier for hemp growers to obtain organic certification, and in turn, that will probably lead to more CBD products carrying the USDA’s seal of organic certification.

Right now, we’re only aware of a handful of USDA-certified organic CBD brands. Then there are brands that don’t have certification for their products, but do source their hemp from USDA-certified organic farms.
