CensorNet – Unified Cyber Security Solution For Ultimate Control

Listen to this article

CensorNet Unified Security Service (USS) is a new-generation comprehensive cloud based cyber security solution that provides organisations with better visibility and control of web access, cloud application use, adaptive multi-factor authentication and email security in a single management dashboard. Below is our interview with Ed Macnair, CEO at CensorNet:

Q: How would you describe CensorNet? What is your core competence?

A: We are a cloud security company. Our cloud based Unified Security Solution combines web security, cloud application, authentication and email security on one single security platform; providing senior management with greater visibility and much better control to IT in the supervision of company-wide internet access and the use of cloud applications across all devices, regardless of whether users are in-office or mobile.

CensorNet was the first to market with a secure web gateway with built-in cloud application control to bridge the gap between traditional web security and cloud application control, providing organizations with full real-time visibility and control of all aspects of web access and cloud application in a single solution.

Building on our extensive technology experience and listening to our customers, we recognized that the growth of cloud applications use, together with an increasingly mobile workforce using multiple devices is putting CIOs under immense pressure to simultaneously encourage productivity and protect sensitive data. Our vision is to provide organizations with a single pane of glass that gives them visibility and control of web, cloud applications and email.

Q: You’ve recently announced acquisition of SMS PASSCODE, could you tell us something more?

A: The integration of SMS Passcode’s technology into our cloud-based Unified Security Service, brings together not only email and web security with cloud application control (CAC) but also adaptive multi-factor authentication, and that puts us in a genuinely rare market position.
It makes us the first security vendor in the world to offer CAC integrated with web security and authentication. We are now in the enviable position of being able to provide organizations with visibility and control of web, cloud applications and email through a single management dashboard.
With weak or stolen passwords are still a major source of network breaches, the integration of SMS Passcode’s authentication capability provides the ultimate game changer. Together we will offer the ultimate in security for networks, data and applications, that can apply policies and protection at a more granular level according to the individual user, where they are, the device they are using, the application, what they are doing with that application and what data they are accessing.

This means that use of a cloud application and the ability to download data can be allowed when on the corporate network using a company-owned device but only viewing the same data allowed when the same person is using their own device and traveling. This ensures that customer or sensitive data are kept secure while still enabling employees to get access to the information that they need to do their jobs.

Q: More generally, how do you see the cloud security landscape developing, and where do you place yourself in the industry?

A: Today, cloud security has a new directive, to liberate and enable users to do their jobs, safe in the knowledge that they’re protected but not prohibited.

The answer lies in the ability to sensibly control the use of cloud applications, apply risk mitigation through policy and help employees avoid circumventing necessary business controls to get the job done. If we’re to learn anything from the dynamic popularity of the app world, it is that innovation and forward motion inspires, captures imagination and makes all things possible. That requires a departure from conventional thinking for the security market and it’s also a long overdue kick up the butt for those that seek to prohibit progress.

The security industry has an obligation to develop sophistication greater than those that seek to break down its walls. That’s why CensorNet has no time for complacency and neither should you. In a saturated market, few vendors seem to have the courage to lead, so I’m unapologetic in our quest to challenge and progress what the role and function of security represents in the real world.

Q: What can we expect from CensorNet in the future? What are your plans?

A: CensorNet will continue to be unafraid of pushing the technical boundaries. We’re a formidable force that is set to lead and redefine the cyber security market. We will continue to grow both organically and through acquisitions as we currently boast a truly global footprint, with over 4,000 customers across 40 countries; and protect over one million users throughout EMEA and the US.

Q: How would you convince the reader to start using CensorNet solutions?

A: With weak or stolen passwords still being the major source of network breaches integrating SMS PASSCODE’s authentication capability to our solution solidifies our position as a complete cloud security company.

Unlike other vendors, we help organizations step up to the challenge of managing the rise of cloud applications in an increasingly mobile work environment. Our solutions provide greater visibility, analysis and control over web access, cloud application use and email security and give customers a truly unified cloud security solution to help them address the challenges of a digital work environment.
