Checkplis is a suite of restaurant specific apps developed to help restaurant operators spend less time on the managerial “side work” and more time on preparing great food and providing customer experience. Below is our recent interview with Abner Flores, CEO of Checkplis:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Checkplis?
A: With so much great technology helping us run our daily lives, we were asking ourselves, “why aren’t there user-friendly apps to help us run our restaurants better?” We believe there should be great technology to run our restaurants and we believe that running a restaurant should be almost as fun as enjoying it as a guest.
Q: Abner, can you tell us something more about your background? What were you doing before Checkplis?
A: My background is chemical engineering and I also worked at a restaurant for a year to learn about customers and the restaurant business itself. I saw a gap between how we live our daily lives and the way restaurant operators run their businesses. The restaurant industry has been left behind in technology and that gap is costing them billions of dollars.
Marcel is a software engineer and a huge fan of having food and drinks with friends at restaurants and bars. As a customer, Marcel understands that there’s definitely an opportunity here and an exciting challenge for him.
With more than 17 years of experience, Jason owns multiple restaurants including Bodega Wine Bar, one of the most successful restaurants in Santa Monica, CA. He was the one with the biggest pain because he has been running his restaurants as best as he could with apps that are not specific to the industry.
Our team, made up of a combination of restaurant owner/operators and engineers, is re-shaping the restaurant industry by giving restaurant operators the tools they need to succeed in this modern era. We’re able to test our apps in our own restaurants before deploying them into other’s and we pay close attention to detail to make sure everything works smoothly from day one. Q: Can you give us insights into your features? What can your apps do?
A: From equipment repair and maintenance, vendor ordering, mobile payments and with more to come, everything we do is geared to help restaurant operators enjoy their day-to-day operations.
Repair and Maintenance – If you’re like us, you’ve been using your contacts app for vendor info, calendar app for reminders & a filing cabinet for warranties & invoices. We felt there had to be a better way.
Our app gets all your equipment, vendors and maintenance schedules in the system quick. When something breaks, put it in the Maintenance app. When it’s time for maintenance, we’ll let you know. All service details are saved in the system forever.
You and your staff are constantly repairing and servicing different things. Everyone can’t be expected to always know what’s under warranty, which means you could be paying for things twice. Checkplis Maintenance app makes this huge task simple. Running a restaurant is hard, but it shouldn’t be this hard.
Vendor Ordering – Again, if you are like us, you have been texting and emailing all your vendors individually. With Checkplis Ordering, simply create all your orders and the system will know where to send each one, and if it should send an email or text.
With all your products and vendors in our system you can easily see your pars, choose your order amounts and send your orders by text or email with just one click of a button.
Q: Why do you think the restaurant industry had been left behind in technology?
A: Restaurants are so busy that they have been operating in reactive mode instead of in proactive mode. This means that they don’t have time to research what’s out there and test it out at their restaurants. It may be a whole project for them to implement something simple. That’s why we have to develop tools that are so simple to use and implement that it’s a no brainer for them.
Q: What are the company’s plans and goals for the future?
A: We strongly believe that the restaurant industry will be transformed from the farm to the table in the next few years. This is going to happen thanks to technology. Restaurants will start operating as a business because with the technology available this is possible now. Our vision is to be the Business Management System for the restaurant where they can see everything that is happening in real time all in one platform. From Repairs and Maintenance, Inventory, Employee Management, Vendor Ordering, Sales, etc.
