Q: Tell us how you started CleanRouter?
A: CleanRouter started way back in 2009, and we initially combined several open source solutions together to deliver something really unique and effective. We have helped serve over 50,000 parents to date and are now a leader in the Residential filtering market.
Since then, we have worked continuously to improve CleanRouter. We have released dozens of performance & security patches (all automatic!), implemented tons of new features like Time Restrictions and our Mobile Apps . Our latest models are also running on incredibly powerful routers; dual cores, heaps of memory, and the latest 802.11ac wireless technology. Parent’s favorite features is the ability to control their Clean Router from their phones from anywhere with the Clean Router Parental Control app.

Q: Why did you create Clean Router?
A: CleanRouter started as a personal project; it was an effort to protect my own family from the dangers of the internet. I wanted an easier, more effective tool for controlling internet content, restricting screen time, and access to detailed logs.
At the time, I was totally unimpressed with the existing solutions. Software protections were difficult to install and maintain, and had limited compatibility. The hardware solutions were almost exclusively aimed at enterprise and were insanely expensive. I said to myself: “I can do this better.” So I bought a few routers and started hacking. The first prototypes ended up working so well, that I knew I had created something special. I just had to get these into the hands of families across the country.
Q: Is it easy to install?
A: Yes! The CleanRouter installs in just 5 minutes or less. Seriously – just 5 minutes!
