Below is our recent interview with Mark Jowell, CEO of LogicJunction:

Mark Jowell

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to LogicJunction?

A: LogicJunction is a Cleveland-based technology solutions provider dedicated to improving wayfinding with indoor navigation in large facilities. Our mission is to provide seamless navigation technology using our real-time blue dot mobile application, which merges data given off by the metal structures within buildings, wi-fi access points, and Bluetooth hardware to create precise indoor walking routes. We provide our system to organizations who are looking to improve efficiency and productivity and create a more personalized experience within their indoor environments.

Our system includes both native iOS and Android apps and access to our library of SDKs that can be integrated into an organization’s existing mobile app. We also offer non-app-based platforms, which are accessible from any web browser and can be programmed to run on digital display units, such as large monitors or kiosks. Together, these platforms provide a comprehensive indoor navigation experience spanning many use cases and supporting many user preferences.

Q: Summa Health has recently launched an indoor navigation app in collaboration with your company; could you tell us something more?

A: We’re thrilled to have a hospital in Northeast Ohio using our mobile blue dot solution. Working with the team at Summa Health has been a great experience because we can see the impact of location-based technologies on our local community. As we continue to build partnerships with other hospitals across the country, we’re glad to reference facilities like Summa Health and other blue dot installations, like Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Lakeland Regional Medical Center, and University Medical Center (Lubbock, TX) to showcase how our wayfinding technology improves everyday life. We’ve been able to identify the impact that technology has had on our customers in terms of improving the patient experience, decreasing the number of questions asked during employee on-boarding, and providing powerful information to hospital administration. In 2018 alone, more than 100,000 experiences were impacted by our indoor navigation system across all clients.

Q: How exactly does your solution work? How reliable is it? Do you use GPS?

A: When we think about navigating to a specific destination, GPS apps such as Google Maps and Waze often come to mind. We’re reliant on end-to-end driving directions, yet until recently, blue dot navigation has been limited to the outdoors, because GPS signals cannot reach indoor spaces. Advances in the indoor location-based services industry (ILS) have made it possible to provide real-time location tracking indoors, offering organizations a platform to create highly personalized and end-to-end navigation experiences for their community of users.

Unfortunately, many of these systems require organizations to purchase new hardware and integrate that hardware with their network infrastructure. The cost to maintain 2,000+ Bluetooth units is often a roadblock for many organizations to deploy technology like ours.

LogicJunction’s innovative technology reduces the requirements for hardware by nearly 85 percent, requiring approximately 100 Bluetooth beacons for every one million square feet. Our indoor positioning system leverages IndoorAtlas’s SDK for geomagnetic location-based data. We use geomagnetic data in combination with wi-fi and some Bluetooth beacons to provide real-time navigation that is accurate within five feet. Q: Why is now the time for a technology solution like LogicJunction?

A: The most successful organizations are following consumer trends and using experience-based systems to improve engagement, outcomes, and organizational performance. In healthcare, many hospitals are focusing on their mobile strategy to differentiate themselves in a highly competitive market.

In today’s mobile economy, LogicJunction’s indoor navigation app provides organizations a turn-key solution that directly impacts user experience, and at the same time provides a scalable IPS system that can be deployed in a reduced time frame without the need of excessive maintenance costs.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: The location-based services industry is constantly evolving and becoming more prominent in everyday life which we can see across all verticals, not just healthcare. We’ve introduced our technology to other industries, such as community centers, government buildings, and workplaces, and we’re excited to continue expansion. As the Internet of Things (IoT) rapidly shapes everyday life, we’re excited for our blue dot to provide a reliable indoor positioning system for location-based services ecosystems to connect with. Connectivity to other systems like asset tracking, safety applications, registration systems, and space occupancy software are at the forefront of our short-term plans. In addition, we’ve been focused on streamlining outdoor to indoor travel and have recently released integrated transportation methods like Uber, Lyft, and local transportation schedules into our app.
