Cloud Based Thermal Health Tracking Systems ThermaScans Helps You Keep Your Business Safe

Listen to this article

We sat down with Vishal Tendulkar, from ThermaScans to learn more about their response to the COVID-19:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to ThermaScans?

A: ThermaScans was started as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and a need for extra protection to businesses in the community. We manufacture locally in Ontario, Canada, at the Microfactory Co-op. Our flagship product, Thermal Eye, scans the user’s forehead to ascertain their core body temperature and provide instant results within seconds. Administrators are notified immediately when there is a high temperature reading, through our app, where the person’s picture and the scan result is shown, cautioning business owners to deal with the circumstance accordingly.

Q: What are the key benefits of using your services?

A: The ThermaScans solution is super fast, accurate, reliable, easy to setup, and use. It takes up little space and it’s light-weight so it can be installed anywhere; however, we recommend that users install ThermaScans in building entrances, where there is high foot-traffic. Our AI powered software locks onto your face when you walk up to it and our “Thermal Eye” sensor rotates to line up with your forehead. If you move up or down, the thermal eye will also move with you. The device automatically recalibrates using our compact internal temperature reference. Our system has a high resolution camera that can stream 1080p video, and the thermal sensor has high radiometric accuracy, which reduces error when calibrated further. Users can access the dashboard online or through our Mobile App available for both iOS and Android where they’ll receive notifications of anyone with an elevated body temperature. When a high temperature is detected you will be notified automatically and can view who it was, and their temperature at the time of scanning via the ThermaScans Dashboard. You can also view the actual thermal image taken. All for under $1,000 USD.

Q: Can you tell us something more about your Founder?

A: Alex Papanicolaou – University of Toronto graduate with a Bachelors of Applied Science in Engineering Science with specialization in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Alex also worked on the iPhone Hardware team at Apple in Cupertino, California in 2014 and then joined the lab of Steve Mann at the University of Toronto after receiving his degree in 2016. Since then, he has been involved with multiple projects like HDR welding (AR/Mediated Reality application), including thermal imaging for 3D printed eyeglasses. His other experiences include neuroscience applications (mechanical and electrical design for a multi-region flurorescence microscope to look at neurons in the brain and spine), consulting for hardware companies in the energy sector, and IoT.

Q: What can we expect from ThermaScans in next 6 months?

A: We have some exciting new things we’re working on. We’re currently improving our AI to scan partial faces and scan people in motion. ThermaScans is also working on integrating with health tracking and contact tracing systems and integrating with door systems to automatically open or lock doors based on subjects’ temperature. We plan to reduce scan speed to sub second, improve our temperature scan accuracy, and are producing a new tablet version with expanded user interface.
