Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to CollegeGrad.com?
A: CollegeGrad.com was founded in 1995 to provide college students and recent grads with direct access to internships and entry level jobs, as well as free job search advice on finding a great internship or job. We are one of the three original entry level job boards (along with Jobtrak and JobDirect) and the only one still in existence, more than 20 years later. We are the oldest and largest entry level job site.
Q: Brian, let’s start with your background. What were you doing before CollegeGrad.com?
A: Before CollegeGrad.com, I was Director of Staffing and Employee Development for a global information technology firm. Later I sold CollegeGrad.com and became VP Global Recruiting for Unisys, then was hired as was the first ever VP Global Talent Acquisition for Amazon. During my career, my hiring teams have been responsible for hiring literally thousands of college grads. I bought back CollegeGrad.com in 2014 to continue helping college students and recent grads in their entry level job search. So the majority of the career advice you read at CollegeGrad.com is written by me, a true hiring manager who sits on the other side of the hiring desk. My job is to help our users fully understand the job search process and to be successful in securing a top-paying internship and entry level job.

Q: What advice do you have for college students and recent grads who are searching for the job?
A: Do not rely on someone else to get you the job. Just getting your degree does not guarantee you a job. You need to take the steps necessary to develop a great resume, find hiring employers, then interview to present the very best you. Q: Why is a resume important? What makes it good?
A: The resume by itself will not get you hired, but a poor resume can keep you from getting hired. Most resumes are not even seen by a human being. Q: How do you help your users prepare for their interviews?
A: Most interview advice is written by career authors and misses the mark for great interviewing. I trained the management team at Amazon on how to behaviorally interview using competency-based interviewing techniques. So what I teach our users is how to respond in a positive way to those behavioral and competency-based questions. Not with pre-programmed answers, but with compelling stories that will make you memorable as a candidate and the one that they not only remember, but want to hire.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We continue to add new features, functionalities and tools for our users at our site. Again, we provide everything for free to our users. We have a new entry level salary calculator to find out how much you can earn in your new career. We added a Quickstart Resume Generator to automatically generate a great resume using our award winning format. We will be launching both Android and iPhone/iOS apps this year. We now have the largest searchable database of internships and entry level jobs in the US. And we are expanding to more than 10 additional countries to provide truly worldwide coverage.
