ConsejoSano is a patient engagement platform that helps payers, providers and health systems better connect with their multicultural Medicaid and Medicare populations. Below is our recent interview with Dr. Vik Bakhru, COO of ConsejoSano:

Q: Could you tell us something more about the company and what you do?

VB: ConsejoSano is a patient engagement platform that helps payers, providers and health systems better connect with their multicultural Medicaid and Medicare populations. We provide our clients with the technology and expertise to truly reach patients in their unique language and culture to help improve healthcare, and address issues like health equity, social determinants, and other challenges that impact healthcare in our country.

Q: You’ve recently received the top 50 in digital health honor for most devoted to promoting health equity; could you tell us something more?

VB: It was an enormous honor to be named an honoree, and to bring awareness to health equity. It’s a topic that is often overlooked in healthcare technology and innovation. Our team was thrilled. Addressing and improving health equity with technology has been part of our mission since ConsejoSano was founded.

Q: Can you give us insights into your solutions?

VB: Our solutions are exciting. We combine native mobile technologies such as text messaging with cutting edge innovations like machine learning and artificial intelligence, then blend it with our multicultural, multilingual care team. A lot of digital health solutions today aren’t accessible to underserved populations, but text messaging is. And, by having our care team reach patients in their own language and culture adds a human touch. It’s been highly effective and impactful.

Q: What’s the best thing about ConsejoSano that people might not know about?

VB: We serve a very large underserved, vulnerable patient population that a lot of technology innovations often overlook, but that can benefit from healthcare technology the most. Our company is also incredibly diverse. We have team members from a wide range of cultures.

Q: What are some of the main objectives for ConsejoSano going into 2020 and how do you plan to achieve them?

VB: To constantly continue to grow, innovate, and evolve. We are in a very unique time of change in healthcare, and we want to keep the pace of that change while continuing to keep an eye on the future to meet the needs of our clients and the patients they serve.

Q: Can technology help improve Medicare and Medicaid? If so, how?

VB: Technology has the power to improve all kinds of things in our world! It can certainly do the same with Medicare and Medicaid. The key is understanding the people covered by these foundational programs, who they are, what kind of technology they use, and have access to, and how to help them. It may not be with the latest slick app, but that doesn’t mean they’re not accessing and using technology, or that technology can’t be used to improve their health.
