Correlsense develops application performance management and monitoring software to help enterprise IT teams diagnose performance problems in real time. Correlsense provides in depth analytics and enables improvements in performance and user experience. Below is our interview with Lanir Shacham, Founder and CEO of Correlsense:
Q:Tell us something more about the company and your core competence?
A: Correlsense is unique in its ability to trace single user requests for any application and follow them through the entire technology stack within an enterprise data-center. Some of the world’s largest companies rely on Correlsense’s product, Sharepath, to manage their critical application’s performance and to ensure their apps are always up and running as expected. With Sharepath, they can literately see every single user’s click and discover why it took five seconds to process instead of one second. Sharepath shows how much of these five second interactions were spent in the web server, app server, database, message brokers, other apps and so forth.

Q: Could you tell us something more about your business performance management platform – Sharepath?
A: Sharepath is the only application performance management product in the market that can trace single user activities across a diverse range of technologies. Sharepath captures every single user click; whether from a web browser, smartphone, desktop application installed on a PC or terminal server. This user request is sent to a type of software element for further processing, such as a web server. Typically the web server will forward the request to yet another component, such as an app server, which will send it to a database and so forth. Tracing all these calls, and still maintaining the original user context that actually generated the original transaction, is an extremely challenging task which only Correlsense has been able to solve in the past decade. Correlsense has a granted patent on its agent technology which enables the collection of all this data in a generic but yet still deterministic fashion. More so, these vast amounts of transaction calls, potentially more than a billion calls per day – are all sent to the Sharepath backend grid for accurate correlation and analysis, where it is indexed and maintained in the Sharepath Big Data Repository.
Q: Who is your ideal customer?
A: Customers who benefit most from Sharepath are large scale enterprises. In these organizations there are an average of a thousand different applications which are all managed by their IT departments, with an average of 50-100 apps that are most critical who make up the revenue generation cycle. Some examples include online banking apps, insurance claims apps, utility management apps, customer billing apps, e-commerce apps and so forth. In such environments there are usually many different types of technologies. Some of the apps are home grown using modern technology stack such as Java or .NET, some of the apps are a mix of modern and older legacy code such as C/C++/VB and some are 3rd party packaged applications such as Oracle Forms or Documentum. The common denominator is the diverse amount of technologies an APM product needs to support in order to still give a single reliable management view to the different IT groups wo are responsible in maintaining all these critical apps up and running at all times.

Q: What advantage does Correlsense have over its competitors?
A: Sharepath agents can trace transactions across technologies that no other APM vendor can do. Sharepath does it in a deterministic fashion, captures every single user request – 100% audit – no sampling or averaging, no changes in the application code required (a.k.a tagging) and all these transactions are indexed in real-time in a way that alerts can be sent immediately when something goes wrong, and Sharepath users can instantly see what their customer base is actually doing and experiencing.
Q: What can we expect from you in next six months? What are your plans?
A: We have always been on the forefront of innovation in our market. We were the first to introduce java script automatic injection at the web server level using an agent, so our customers could measure real user experience as opposed to synthetic monitoring as was common a few years back. We were also the first to introduce a whole new concept of binary interception which only now we see only a few vendors trying to reach this level of granularity, usually with less success.
Looking ahead, we are excited for what the future holds for Correlsense and we still plan to innovate and bring to the market new ways of managing performance of large scale data-centers. There is still much in store for 2015 but for now we are keeping most of our cards to ourselves.
