DATABASICS is a company with roots in expense reporting, invoice processing automation and time management. For over 20 years they have been supplying companies from various industries with tailor-made solutions. To find out more about their software we sat down with Jennifer Schnittker, Marketing Manager at DATABASICS:
Q: Jennifer, could you tell us something more about the company and your history?
A: DATABASICS introduced its first web-based products in 1997, TimeSite and ExpenSite. TimeSite did time tracking. ExpenSite did expense reporting. 1997 was very early for web applications and we were among the first to market with enterprise-quality business applications. We have won a Deloitte Fast Fifty award for growth, but we are most proud of our people and our great clients like Sony Music, Panera, Wegmans Purdue Pharma and so many others. We are still making time and expense software, now as a Software-as-a-Service hosting provider, with a tight focus on making the most of mobile technology.
We are a private corporation headquartered in Reston VA with an additional office in Montreal QC.

Q: Could you explain the function and advantages of your DATABASICS Expense solution?
A: DATABASICS Expense goes beyond the usual. Today’s vendors typically offer entry with some pre-populations, a few simple business rules, a layer of approvals, a set of canned reports, and an output file that the customer can use if he can figure out how. Mobile has joined the list of features you expect to see from vendors. Generally the idea seems to be that with training in the software, a customer can adapt it to his needs and the result will be close enough to what he had hoped for that he will go forward with it.
At DATABASICS we are problem-solvers. We use our software as a tool to help our customers fully achieve their vision for expense reporting. For this reason, our solution is the most flexible available—all features come with configurability built-in. It isn’t about ourselves or our product—it’s always about what the customer. This means we have to understand not only requirements, but culture, resource constraints, business model and any other factor that could affect the success of our customers’ expense reporting initiatives.
Q: Who is your ideal client and why?
A: Our ideal customer is one who has significant challenges. There are many solutions for organizations that just want to “streamline”. It’s when a customer recognizes that their expense reporting can have strategic impact and that “good enough” isn’t good enough that DATABASICS stands out from its competitors.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your other solutions?
A: Complementing DATABASICS Expense is DATABASICS Time. Time manages the full spectrum of time tracking requirements from virtual clocks to professional services bill-back. Included is Leave Tracking which has the flexibility to manage the “real world” complexities and exceptions of employee leave in today’s organizations. Together Time and Expense provide the market’s most advanced employee reporting solution. DATABASICS also offers P-Card management. With DATABASICS P-Card, internal controls finally catch up with convenience.
Q: What’s the best thing about DATABASICS that people might not know about?
A: Every day we put on our “game face”, but actually we have a lot of fun working with each other and our customers. When we solve a problem for our customers, we’re probably happier than they are.
