Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Alison Martin, National Director at Engage Mentoring:

Alison Martin

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Diverse Talent Strategies?

A: Diverse Talent Strategies is a specialty consulting firm who works with companies, universities, and nonprofits to construct mentoring programs that are easy to administer and metric driven. Our process combines planning, technology, training, and metrics to ensure the program is working as it should with the least amount of effort for the client.

Q: Can you tell us something more about your Engage Mentoring program? What is it all about?

A: The Engage Mentoring program was designed to allow more employers to offer workplace mentoring as a benefit to employees and programming aimed at helping employers attract, retain, and develop talent. We believe in addressing the needs of the whole person when it comes to employees and are continually refining our program to help employees achieve both their personal and professional goals. It is very exciting indeed.

From a cost perspective, the program is easily accessible for employers large and small and combines leadership development, corporate social responsibility, and HR data and insights to move the needle on current talent initiatives and help our clients build a thriving company culture.

Q: What are the participation benefits for employers?

A: For employers, participation benefits include:

Offering a structured 12 month mentoring program to employees that is fully administrated by us – employers simply select the participants and give us names and emails and we do the rest.

Participation in the Talent Executive Roundtable. We are selecting people-focused talent executives in cities across the country to participate in a roundtable aimed at solving issues related to attracting, retaining, and developing talent.

Metrics and data. We provide data around mentoring program participation and effectiveness.

Corporate Social Responsibility. The Engage Mentoring program affords the participants the opportunity to “give back” by mentoring the next generation of leaders through our partnerships with nonprofits and educational institutions. For this reason, the program is a unique opportunity that young talent finds particularly appealing.

Q: You are expanding geographically and have announced several partnerships recently regarding that expansion; could you tell us something more?

A: Yes, we have! We are building Talent Executive Roundtables in 20 cities nationally as we speak and are identifying “the best of the best” to participate by learning and collaborating on topics related to attracting, retaining, and developing talent. Participation on the Roundtables is made by nomination and participation also includes workplace mentoring as an employee offering.

To grow this program, we typically partner with a visionary people-focused leader or company who sees the value in the work we do and wants to bring our programming to their community.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: We have a vision of every employer in America offering workplace mentoring as an employee benefit because we have seen what it can do for retention and engagement and won’t rest until that happens.
