Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to EcoDataCenter?
A: EcoDataCenter is designed to be the world’s first climate positive data center. We provide flexible data center colocation solutions with world class performance to customers with mission-critical requirements, as well as bespoken high-density solutions. Our unique combination of unparalleled uptime, world class security, extreme flexibility, and sustainability at a very competitive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is a paradigm shift. Data center Falun B1 is designed to a Tier 4 data center. It is located at EcoDataCenter´s campus in Falun, Sweden.
Q: How exactly does it work?
A: The climate-positive effect is achieved through a combination of location and innovative design. EcoDataCenter’s site in Falun has access to (1) 100% renewable power and is designed to be extremely power efficient, with a (2) PUE of 1,15. The data center campus is connected to the adjacent combined heating and plant. Surplus heat from the data centers can be (3) fed into the district heating system and even run a wood pellet factory, thereby cutting back on the need for fossils fuels. The net effect is climate positive.
The cost-efficiency is achieved through the same combination of location and design; energy prices are extremely low in Sweden and being energy efficient is cost-efficient. But also EcoDatacenter has got the lowest capex per MW, being the main cost component built into the price. The attractive cost schemes is however not only built on this, is relies on a myriad of smart decisions in the setup of the data center. Designing everything from start and by ourselves, has made it possible to integrate the highest levels of availability and security.

A: EcoDataCenter provides colocation services, HPC services and solutions for Hyperscale. We offer Secured Rack, Secured Cage, White Space and Shell and Core. Given our campus potential, we have great flexibility to design according to customer needs.
Q: Why is now the time for a technology solution like EcoDataCenter?
A: The world stands before an immense climate challenge and we are running out of time. The IT sector has a huge carbon footprint, approximately 10% of the world’s total carbon emissions. And this is expanding at an exponential rate, driven by data growth. Data center’s account for a large share of these emissions. We can change this, by changing the norm for how we expect data center’s to be run.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: The company has big ambitions. We aim at becoming the main Nordic alternative within the industry. Our main-shareholders are willing to invest billions in order to get there. We are currently working on expanding our operations though organic growth as well as through strategic acquisitions in the Nordics.
