Q: Steven, it’s great to speak with you again. Could you quickly provide our readers with a brief refresh about your business? Whatʼs new in the VisualTargeting® world?
A: In 2020, we received our third VisualTargeting® patent that covers automated online design in a way that has never been done before. People will actually be able to tell their design software who they are making a design for, and the software will show them design solutions that are predestined to be most attractive to the intended audience. In the near future this will become a new industry standard for businesses, entrepreneurs, and designers. Market preference driven automatic design will be a fundamental part of the design process, from everyday individuals making a simple website, to major players.
We partnered up with Adobe, the world leader in marketing and design software, with $11 Billion in yearly revenues. We were partners with the legendary agency Ogilvy&Mather for years, and we are committed to bringing the same level of leadership and vision to this new partnership with the largest professional design business in the world. It feels appropriate for VisualTargeting® to be working with Adobe, because they are the best at what they do, and we are thankful for that honor.
We launched a brand new professional StyleTesting™ solution for architects, interior designers, and graphic designers, that positions them at a higher level of professionalism than ever before, and provides them with a higher level of client satisfaction, along with a massive competitive advantage. Q: You have an interesting background. Can you tell us something more about your previous success?
A: I was raised Christian and always had a strong fundamental belief in God. When I was in High School, I started my first branding agency, and that allowed me to set the price for professional design services at the industry standard $100 hourly rate. The business specialized in Corporate Identities, launching and redesigning startups and emerging businesses, turning them into trustworthy, professional looking brands. Hourly rates were popular with designers because they allowed
them to charge as much as they wanted to, and this was all before online design existed. So we started establishing guaranteed rates, letting our clients have the peace of knowing exactly how much they were going to pay for their Corporate Identity, and with that structure we were able to make hundreds per hour. This made the business very popular, and our clients continued to thank us for thinking about their businesses, instead of only focusing on the art that we made.
It was inside the branding agency that I had the idea for VisualTargeting® at the end of my teenage years. I realized that if there was some way to find out what our clients, and their markets, are responding best to, before making and testing new designs, then we would be able to satisfy our clients better and faster than any other design firm. And when the marketing advantage became clear, I realized that this innovation should be available to all design firms and businesses, instead of keeping it as one branding agencyʼs secret weapon. At that time I was reading an article in Communication Arts magazine titled “Design in the Age of Accountability” and it made clear that the major business leaders were all publicly asking for a solution that would make creative design financially reliable and profitable, and thatʼs what I had.
So I turned 21, bought a one way airplane ticket to Venice Beach, California, got an oceanfront penthouse, opened an office in Beverly Hills, started a new business focused on VisualTargeting® and sold my branding agency so I could invest into this new innovation.
Q: Who is your ideal client and why?
A: In 2020 VisualTargeting® became an Adobe Solution Partner, a title reserved for “leading companies that provide digital marketing solutions, professional services and integrated technologies.” Our ideal clients are Fortune 500s, television stations, movie production studios, celebrities, entrepreneurs, and designers. These are the people that are most heavily invested into design, and the people that are producing the majority of the graphic arts that are presented to humanity. Working together, we are able to make a big difference every time, improving millions of peopleʼs life experiences.

Q: What do you see happening in the future of entertainment media?
A: The years ahead will bring fascinating breakthroughs to the intersection of television and online shopping. People will be able to pause the TV show, movie, music video, or runway show that they are watching, click on the item that they are interested in right there on the screen, and instantly purchase that item with one click, then seamlessly continue playing whatever video they were watching. Weʼve recently purchased a brand new technology thatʼs been around for only two years, built in the United Kingdom, and it is clear that it allows for this type of entertainment. First this will be on computers and smartphones, and it will quickly transition onto television.
People will be able to instantly purchase the clothes and accessories that actors are wearing, the technologies, furniture, and decorations that are in the backgrounds, the cars on the streets in the movies, and so on. Some business leaders who have advised me for years have called this type of experience Entertailing, a hybrid of Entertaining & Retail. This move will provide unlimited product placement opportunities that are organic, natural and non intrusive. Furthermore it will create new opportunities for streaming television content with less need for generic mass market advertising to pay for the airtime, and television advertisements will become personally targeted to the individual viewerʼs verified interests. It will be a complete revolution in the way people shop, and it will vastly improve the television entertainment experience for all.
