Below is our recent interview with Dr. David Matsumoto, President of Humintell:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of you, what is the best way to describe Humintell?

A: Humintell is a cutting-edge research and training company that specializes in leveraging the science of reading people, body language, and nonverbal behavior to facilitate interviewing, deception detection, negotiation, threat assessment, social influence, and cross-cultural competence. Founded in 2009, we combine a half-century of innovative research and state-of-the-art behavioral science, much of it conducted by our own world-renowned scientists, with real world practical experience.

Through our online and instructor-led workshops, we have trained tens of thousands of individuals from all walks of life and professions. In the public sector, Humintell’s clients include governments, agencies, and individuals involved in national security, law enforcement, intelligence, and diplomacy. In the private sector, our clients include thought leaders as well as practitioners in business, law, and asset protection. Humintell training is the gold standard in these areas because all its products and services are based in the latest and best, validated science.

Q: Can you give us insights into your offerings?

A: The ability to read people, body language, and nonverbal behavior accurately is extremely important to establishing relationships, building rapport, conducting interviews, eliciting and evaluating information, negotiating, managing people, and many other purposes. Anyone who interacts with others on a face-to-face basis, and even those who observe people at a distance, will benefit from our training.

Humintell offers both in-person, instructor-led workshops as well as online training courses.

Our instructor-led workshops are taught by Humintell scientists and/or current or former practitioners with decades of experience leveraging behavioral indicators of mental states to facilitate interviewing, negotiations, rapport-building, and information elicitation. Workshops run anywhere from a half- to five-days, depending on the needs and requirements of our clients. Our workshops are uniformly successful and effective, with an average effectiveness rating of 4.8 out of 5.0 across thousands of participants in all workshops conducted to date.

Q: What are Microexpressions?

A: Many of Humintell’s online courses and instructor-led workshops feature our unique training on microexpressions.

Microexpressions are very special types of facial expressions that occur in situations where someone is emotional but is trying to conceal or repress that emotion, such as when talking about a difficult or embarrassing topic, trying to manage other’s impressions of oneself, or even when one is lying or hiding something.

In those situations, although many people can control their expressions to some degree, microexpressions can leak out very quickly to reveal unconscious, underlying thoughts or feelings. Most people don’t see those expressions and those who see them see something but don’t know how to interpret them.

Many of Humintell’s unique course offerings feature our suite of MiX microexpression recognition training tools, which can help improve your ability to see these scientifically validated signs of hidden thoughts and feelings. Even though they last only a fraction of a second, anyone can learn to recognize them.

Q: You’ve recently made some improvements to your best-selling MiX Original Microexpression Training Course; could you tell us something more?

A: We recently obtained feedback from many of the thousands of users on how we can improve our best-selling MiX Original Microexpression Training Course.

We took that feedback to heart and we’ve made a number of enhancements to the course. In addition to a new look and feel, the course includes new instruction sections complete with audio and we’ve also added over 400 new expression images. With the additional images, you can take the practice and post-test sections as many times as you’d like and see a different set of images each time.

Our new and improved MiX Enhanced Emotion Recognition Training will help all users be the best they can be at reading facial expressions of emotion and will help you see how others really feel and label it quickly and accurately.

MIX Enhanced was just released in November of 2019 and we’re really excited!
