Hutch Raises $10M Series A Funding To Accelerate The Development Of Its Interior Design Mobile App

Hutch is an interior design media and m-commerce company that is re-imagining how to conceptualize home furnishing and decor by using on-demand filters to decorate spaces instantaneously. Created with proprietary photo technology, Hutch builds a virtual rendering of your personal space (cleared of furniture) to begin the design process.

Q: You’ve recently announced $10M Series A funding round; could you tell us something more?

A: The investment will be used to accelerate product development and growth of the company’s home design app and functionality. As part of the investment, Spencer Rascoff, Zillow Group’s chief executive officer, will join Hutch’s board of directors. Rascoff brings his extensive tech startup and real estate experience to their existing leadership team.

Q: What is the story behind Hutch, how did you start?

A: We appeared on Shark Tank to pitch the concept which piqued the interest of Sean Rad (Founder of Tinder) who stepped in to help raise 2.2 million dollars in Pre-Seed funding. Immediately following that round, we raised another 5 million of funding in a Seed Round led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund.

Q: What exactly is Hutch, how does it work?

A: Hutch focuses on visualization, allowing users to see their rooms reimagined through distinct design filters such as Malibu Luxe, Scandinavian Summer and Tropic Glam. The filters are curated by our network of designers and each product within the filter is shoppable directly through the app. They are the fastest interior design service on the market—targeting a tech-savvy generation—who gravitate towards products that are versatile, interactive, self-guided, and personalized.

Q: Why is now the time for a technology solution like Hutch?

A: Next to divorce and death, moving has been proven to be the most stressful experiences humans endure. Hutch was created to streamline that process and catering to all of us who are moving every year, changing cities, and need furniture that’s versatile and a design process that’s quick and painless.
