Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Devina Bhojwani, Chief Executive Officer at IDEA Lab Kids:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to IDEA Lab Kids?

A: IDEA Lab Kids is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Arts and Math) based after-school franchise founded in 2017. Our program offers cutting-edge curriculum to children from PreK all the way through middle school via our mortar campuses and a mobile/online option.

Q: Can you give us insights into your programs?

A: We deliver a variety of STEAM disciplines via after-school classes, seasonal camps, and birthday party experiences. Some of the disciplines include robotics, coding, science, 3D printing, engineering, arts and cooking.

Q: What’s different with your approach compared to the traditional ways of teaching?

A: The STEM workforce in the United States has been shrinking as we graduate fewer and fewer engineers. Idea Lab has used this as our mission to focus on introducing these concepts to children as young as five years of age. We believe in hands on learning and know the value of having fun while learning.

Q: What are the benefits of an IDEA Lab STEAM program?

A: STEAM ignites problem solving and critical thinking skills. We truly believe with STEAM education we can reach all children in a multitude of disciplines right where they are. Our mantra is to do what it takes to “educate and grow one mind at a time”.

Q: What efforts is IDEA Lab doing to help keep communities educated and entertained during this time?

A: IDEA Lab kids has quickly adapted and pivoted our focus to online learning through camps, classes, and even online birthday parties. Some of our campuses have remained open to help with essential worker’s children.

Q: What plans does the brand have in the coming years?

A: We plan to continue growing. We’ve had over 900% growth since our inception over three years ago. The goal is to reach as many children as possible. We also spend a lot of time and effort keeping up with trends and what is popular with the children. This changes quickly so we have to stay on our toes. For example two summer’s ago we rolled out how to mod with Minecraft for our 8-12 year olds and this camp ended up being very popular for us.

Q: What does the franchising process look like?

A: The franchise process beings with a prospect reaching out to learn more about our brand. Firstly, they can attend one of our bi-monthly executive calls held alternate Friday’s at 11:00am CST. Secondly, you sign a non-disclosure document and get assigned our FDD (franchise disclosure document) to review. Next, you get to attend a virtual or an in-person discovery day where you get to see the inner workings of our program. During this stage you also present your business plan and why you would be a good fit for our brand. Lastly, you sign the franchise agreement and begin your journey with us as a “franchisee”
