Below is our recent interview with Evan Starkey, Marketing Manager at Ident-A-Kid:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: Ident-A-Kid is a leading provider of school safety and emergency solutions that include visitor, volunteer, and emergency management, digital school IDs, and digital Child IDs for families. We’re proud to have been helping keep children and schools safe for over 35 years!

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: Yes! Our announcement talked about the upcoming release of our new digital school ID and emergency management solution, MySchool iD™. We’re always collecting feedback and talking with our customers to learn about their needs and find new ways to help them. Through this feedback and collaboration, we learned that many of our customers need an emergency management tool. In fact, some states are signing into law that their public schools will be required to have an emergency system in place to comply with Alyssa’s Law. We’re very excited about the upcoming release.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: Ident-A-Kid offers a whole suite of software solutions to K-12 schools that improve their safety and efficiency. Our visitor management system, called iVisitor Management, helps schools track all the traffic in and out of campus. This includes visitors, volunteers, students, staff, and any other visitor type. Our software is very flexible and can be customized to meet anyone’s needs. Not only does iVisitor Management track people entering and leaving campus, but we also provide automatic background checks for sex offenders, banned persons, and custody issues. The software is also used to track tardies and early releases for students, hours for staff and volunteers, and follow recommended COVID-19 guidelines. At the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, we released new features to iVisitor Management that allow our customers to track activities remotely, collect wellness screening questionnaires, and implement contact tracing. It has been a huge help to our schools over the past year and a half. We also provide integrations with school information systems like PowerSchool to sync student attendance data in real-time, eliminating hours of manual data entry.

The Ident-A-Kid Volunteer Management App transforms a slow, paper and pencil process of collecting volunteer applications completely digital. This speeds up the volunteer application process and helps school districts approve new volunteers much faster. We’ve partnered with Sterling Volunteers, the largest volunteer background screening service dedicated to the non-profit and service sector. We offer an integration for school districts to manage their volunteer process with Sterling Volunteers and sync data to iVisitor Management.

MySchool iD (MSID) is our newest product. Traditional hard card IDs for schools take a long time to create, are expensive, and can be easily lost or damaged. With MSID, students now have an ID app on their phone, which they don’t typically lose. In addition, schools can create and manage custom digital IDs faster and cheaper than traditional IDs. MSID can be used for renting books from the library, buying lunch, and more. MSID isn’t just an ID, though. It also has emergency management features. Students and staff can report incidents and emergencies right from the app, allowing schools to improve their response times. In the event of an emergency activated by administrators, all users can report themselves safe or in need of help. This provides administrators real-time information to assess the situation at hand and respond appropriately.

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: We’re always working on updates to our products to serve our school customers better. The main focus for us will be the successful rollout of MSID. We’re creating a lot of great content and educating districts about this new product. We also have updates coming to iVisitor Management SIS integrations to improve our connections and allow the secure transfer of more data between our systems. All of this is to help save school even more time and money by automating tasks they have to do manually right now.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: We really hope this isn’t a secret, but the best thing about Ident-A-Kid is our dedication to customer support. We’re a small, privately-owned business that is celebrating its 35th year. We wouldn’t have made it here without our great customers and the hardworking team we have to support them. We provide free tech support to everyone and are easily accessible through a phone call, email, online chat, scheduled training, or our online knowledge base. From the very beginning when a school purchases one of our products, we have a team dedicated to making sure they’re onboarded properly, trained, and satisfied. We love getting customer feedback and are always looking for new ways to improve.
