Below is our recent interview with Vanessa Breuer, CEO at Invest Latam

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Invest Latam?

A: We are facilitating loans for small businesses in Latin America funded by small investors. Each part meet in our platform and make credit deals. Investors earn a higher return above 18.0% per annum. On the other hand, small businesses find credit options at a more accesible price. We are live now in Colombia.

Q: How exactly does it work? Can you explain the investing process?

A: The whole process is online and users register directly to our platform. We conduct a complete due diligence for both investors and borrowers. Investors just need to provide their ID and bank account. Company asking for a loan need to provide all documentation online. Thanks to our alliances and our technology we can verify the information and make a decision within 3 days to provide a credit.

Q: How do you protect your investors?

A: Protection is very highly located in our priorities as we seek to reduce significantly the risk for our investors. All companies provide a co-guarantor which is also responsible for the debt. Companies have to sign a credit-acknowledgement that gives the legal right to the investor to claim the debt. Our candidates also follow a strict credit analysis where we verify the financial data and the health of the company along with the key representatives. Finally we also have an alliance with a large debt recovery company that is in charge to recover any owed debt.

Q: What’s the vision that guides you?

A: We want to help small businesses that have had limited access to financial institutions. According to a study from McKinsey in 2018, only 20% of small companies survive after 3 years as 62% don’t have access to loans for their growth. We want to help the economy by giving companies an option to grow and nurture their social environment. We are a bridge between people that want to earn higher returns and companies that need a loan.

Q: What can we expect from Invest Latam in the future?

A: We are going to consolidate the Colombian market and expand in Latin America. We have received a strong demand from both investors and borrowers users. Hence we will continue to grow to fulfilll our mission to help funding small companies, offer higher returns to investors and will also add later the option to fund people.
