Below is our recent interview with Krishna Bhat, CEO of Kloudio:
Q: Can you provide a brief introduction to Kloudio?
A: Kloudio is a self-service data analytics platform that enables financial analysts, product managers, marketing managers and other middle managers to directly access and combine data from disparate data sources, as noted below, with popular end-user tools such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Smartsheet, Airtable, Slack and other tools without the need for specific coding skills.
Data sources:
1) Databases: Oracle, MySQL, Postgres, AWS Redshift, MS SQL etc.
2) Cloud applications: Salesforce.com, Workday, Oracle Cloud, NetSuite etc.
3) Web services: LinkedIn, Google Adwords, Bing Ads, Amazon Ads, Facebook Ads, Jira etc.
End users can continue to use their favorite spreadsheet solution and view multiple data sources through its simple, intuitive interface. Once users define their report on the Kloudioportal using an intuitive GUI, they can also have Kloudio auto refresh their spreadsheets for near real-time access to data. Kloudio is also one of the few data products that also allows write-backs/updates or data uploads into the database/application for users with proper authentication.
With six teams in Netflix saving up to 16,000 man-hours annually and more than 2,200 registered business users from 90 countries using Kloudio within a year of launch, we are on a mission to democratize data access.

Q: Can you give us insight regarding the top features of Kloudio?
A: a. Access data from relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres, AWS Redshift, Oracle and MS SQL and cloud applications such as Salesforce.com, JIRA, Netsuite, Intercom, Stripe etc.
b.Upload data into databases such as MySQL, Postgres, AWS Redshift, Oracle and MS SQL as well as ERPs such as Oracle and Workday
c. Enable built-in integrations with ERP applications such as Oracle
d. Use end user tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, Slack and Amazon Echo to access relational data
e. Specify entity relationships using proprietary KloudML (Kloudio Markup Language)
f. Specify role based access using KloudML going as granular as schema, table, column or even row level access based controls.

Q: What are the primary benefits of using Kloudio?

a. Abstracts the underlying complexity of data sources and makes data from any data source easily available to users through the common tools that they are most
comfortable using for ad-hoc data analysis and extraction such as spreadsheets, word processors, tablets, IoT devices etc.
b. This equips users with a direct way to access and analyze data from a variety of data sources to make business decisions without being blocked by IT for data requests.
c. Currently, Kloudio supports getting data from any database ( MySQL, PostGres, Redshift, MS SQL and Oracle) and ERP package (Oracle Apps) into end user 1 of 10 tools such as MS Excel, Google Sheets, Amazon Echo and Slack. In future, we will also support cloud applications (Salesforce.com, Netsuite, Oracle Cloud etc) and web services (Linkedin, Zillow, Facebook, etc) as data source
d. While empowering the end user, this solution also makes it easy for IT departments to define access controls for various data elements based on existing roles, keep the data access centralized and also upgrade the enterprise s/w infrastructure and applications without disrupting the reporting processes of business users who ultimately have to use this data.
e. For example, an investor can extract their portfolio from their financial application directly on Excel or a marketing manager can invoke sentiment analysis APIs from Twitter for her latest marketing campaign and understanding the impact directly on Google Sheets. Using the Kloudio skill on Amazon Echo, an executive can get a daily summary of how his business is performing by just asking Alexa after verifying his identity via 2 factor authentication. A recruiter could manage all potential job candidates on her spreadsheet and communicate and schedule interviews with all of them by just running simple excel functions Also, after analysis, if a data analyst needs to manipulate data and update the data source with some new updates, Kloudio does that using the upload template feature. This, of course, requires the user to have the appropriate access level and authorization for the data source.
