Below is our recent interview with Sushma Sharma, CEO and Founder of Konversai:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Konversai?

A: An eBay of knowledge, Konversai is the world’s first one-stop shop for any and all personal human knowledge. We live in a world where technology makes our lives more convenient but also more disconnected. Konversai connects people on a one-on-one basis and enables video conversations between them for the exchange of knowledge. There are millions of people who have valuable knowledge and skills, have time, and need income, but don’t have a way to offer it and earn from it. There are also millions of people who need face-to-face interactions to learn something or get trustworthy information but are limited by geography, time, and money. Konversai offers the solution to both of these problems by being the connector. It is the platform that allows everyone to be part of the gig economy.

Q: You’ve recently reached a milestone of 100K users; tell us more about your journey.

A: We are totally on fire right now! We are reaching a tipping point. It has been an extremely hard journey so far, but Konversai has given me a dream that keeps me awake at night and smiling during the day. On a personal level, there have been many hardships and obstacles. The idea of Konversai began in the summer of 2015, and as you can imagine, for a non-tech person to create a website, create a team, find users, and find funding has not been an easy journey. On top of that, to deal with personal hardships, such as undiagnosed illness and losing a loved one, all I can say is it’s a journey I wouldn’t wish on anyone. But despite everything, Konversai has grown immensely, which proves the point that there is an inherent need that is being satisfied by it. There is an intrinsic need in the world for it, and I have been lucky to have an amazing team that truly believes in its purpose and impact. Many really good ideas die not because of lack of execution but because they weren’t in the market long enough for people to find out about them. I feel that we are at a brilliant cusp where people are finding out about Konversai and realizing how much it will change their world. That in itself is a beautiful place to be. From a business point of view, Konversai is getting stronger each and every day, and I propose to do my best to keep the growth momentum escalating. I know how rare it is to have a dream that gives you a purpose in life, and I intend to fully embrace that.

Q: How exactly does your platform work?

A: We have created a virtual loop of learning. We are connecting people who are providing knowledge to people who are seeking knowledge through Skype or FaceTime. What’s interesting on our site is that a person can be a provider for something and a seeker for something else at the same time. The knowledge itself does not need to be (but can be) on an expert level, which makes it more approachable. We’ve basically created a gig economy for every skill and experience you have. It’s as broad as humans are and as big as the world can be. The core premise of Konversai is that every human being in the world has knowledge to share and a skillset to share. All we need is a convenient place that provides access to that knowledge base and we have done that.

Q: How would you convince the reader to try Konversai?

A: Each one of us has a story to share with the world, and I am providing the place to share that story. Konversai is a place for sharing knowledge, but beyond that and the greater purpose of it is to be a place for connecting people. People don’t connect to a website. They connect to stories and other people who are like them. Humans in general cannot survive without social connection. If you agree with that premise that we need to connect with other humans, I don’t need to convince you to try Konversai. Konversai is a place where you can be yourself. It is a place where you can share your knowledge with honesty. You don’t have to pretend to be something or someone you’re not. It’s a place where you can learn interesting things, fun things, crazy things, serious things. It’s bite-sized learning for every person. It provides money-making opportunities to people who may not have previously had such opportunities, including students, stay-at-home parents, people with disabilities, and freelancers, all of whom can participate in the gig economy.

We have many stories of the impact Konversai can have on people’s lives. For example, two of our active users did sessions together at least three times a week for over a year and developed a deep friendship exclusively through the screen, just by talking about the topics that they are passionate about. Despite never having met in person, one of these users was invited to the other user’s wedding, and that was their first time meeting in person. As another example, one of our users was able to learn fluent Spanish pretty much from scratch in one year just by having sessions with different providers and talking to them for between thirty minutes and an hour almost every day. This user now offers Spanish sessions as a provider on Konversai. These are just a few of thousands of amazing people on Konversai. If you feel you want to make connections like these, you should be on the platform.

I personally don’t need to convince you. The work, the site, and the response of people should convince you on its own. I’ve created a place that will help you and provide you with access to a database of human knowledge that will soon be unparalleled. Q: What is the most popular category on Konversai?

A: This is a hard question to answer because it is always changing. From a purely numeric standpoint, language is currently our most popular category globally. However, we find that different categories tend to do well in different geographic regions. For example, personal training and beauty and style are both popular in the US. We have many sessions on language, cooking, dance, singing, and travel taking place globally. We’ve also added a new gaming category for which there appears to be a high demand, particularly in Asia.

Q: What can we expect from Konversai in the coming months?

A: You can expect crazy and amazing things. We are growing globally, and we intend to maintain that momentum. We are already in over 25 countries, and we plan to grow much more. We will have thousands of interesting stories to share with the world. We are working on our mobile app, which will take Konversai to a stratostrophic level. We are working on integrating feedback from users to make our site more seamless and easier to navigate. Do remember, though, that we are a small team, and we intend to stay a small team.
