Q: You’ve recently announced $5 Million investment, Series A? Could you tell us something more?

A: The $5M from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) was not a Series A venture investment in Landed. It is an investment in one of our real estate funds that can be used by home-buying educators to help them cover up to half of their down payment on a new home. Anyone who works at the Redwood City, Sequoia Union High School, or Ravenswood City school districts are eligible. The partnership allows our team at Landed to help many more potential homebuyers, and it allows CZI to invest their money in a sustainable solution to part of the housing challenges in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Q: Could you tell us something more about Landed?

A: Landed is on a mission to help essential professionals, like teachers, buy homes closer to where they work. Our product comprises of financial coaching and equity financing for homebuyers. We founded the company in 2015, were a part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 Batch, and are based in San Francisco.

Q: What makes you stand out from your competition?

A: We’re laser focused on a fair deal between our homebuyers and investors in our funds, and we’re experts at learning how to service specific groups of homebuyers according to the demands of their profession. We also combine the power of providing a financial product for our customers while not becoming dependent on investment management fees. We derive the majority of our revenue from our real estate brokerage referral fees. All of this work will easily be made more scalable as we continue to increase elements of an online-based customer experience.

Q: Who are the primary clients of Landed?

A: Educators and other essential professionals who make enough to afford the month to month cost of owning a home but who can’t save fast enough to come up with a standard 20% down payment on a new home.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: First help educators everywhere where land is expensive, and then expand to other essential professionals. We won’t stop until our society upholds those who uphold us.
