Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to OpenBOM?

A: OpenBOM is an online platform that helps industrial companies to manage product information and processes and communicate with contractors and suppliers. The core of OpenBOM is the ability to manage product data (eg. Bill of Materials) with all related information – files, specifications, cost, sustainability, etc. and manage its lifecycle including revisions and changes. From that standpoint, OpenBOM is a Product Lifecycle Management system. It also allows to the management of design files to help engineering organizations to manage document lifecycle and collaborate during the engineering process. OpenBOM supports many downstream processes such as costing, inventory control, and procurement allowing to organization of an entire digital thread of information from the early design phase to procurement, shipment, and maintenance.

Q: What are main advantages of your SaaS platform?

A: The main differentiation of OpenBOM is that it was built using modern data management and cloud technologies. It has multi-tenant data management capabilities allowing to users in multiple companies and teams to share data seamlessly and instantly. Inside, OpenBOM runs on top of modern data management platforms such as noSQL and Graph Databases allowing to provide unique data management and analytics capabilities combined with the scale and performance.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your services?

A: OpenBOM helps to organize a digital thread of product-related information for manufacturing companies. It is a foundation of OpenBOM, which allows the management of Parts, CAD files, Bills of Materials, and Inventories as well as connecting companies with their contractors and suppliers. OpenBOM supports collaborative real-time simultaneous data editing which helps teams to work other on the same problem. It is available globally to everyone and allows to operate OpenBOM and not be limited by LAN access, doesn’t require VPNs, and doesn’t require complex IT operation. It is seamlessly upgraded by OpenBOM and doesn’t require special administration. OpenBOM is seamlessly integrated with many CAD systems to support easy capture of information. Combined with the flexible data model, it allows companies to create a custom data representation by the easy configuration of OpenBOM parameters.

Q: What can we expect from OpenBOM in the next 12 months? What are your plans?

A: OpenBOM is actively growing and expanding. Earlier this year we extended our services to support cloud product data management (PDM) capabilities to manage engineering (CAD) files and purchasing functions. Next year, we plan to provide advanced capabilities of Bill of Materials functions including multi-BOM capabilities, extend Inventory control with time management and to connect OpenBOM to more online data sources such as catalogs of off-the-shelf components and providers of specialized industrial parts.
