Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: LightWare is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of professional grade laser rangefinders or microLiDAR™. Our microLiDAR™ sensors have applications across multiple industries – Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Use cases for our microLiDAR™ are discovered daily. Responsiveness to our customers, product innovation, product & service quality and business integrity are the core pillars of our success.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: We are very proud to be the winners of the AUVSI XCELLENCE AWARD for our SF45, the world’s smallest and lightest scanning microLiDAR™. This product weighs a mere 59gram (2.08oz) and measures 51 x 48 x 43mm – it is roughly the size of a golf ball. With a range of 50 meters and a scanning field of view (FoV) of 320, this microLiDAR™ is ideal for obstacle detection on both UAVs and UGVs.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: LiDAR as a technology has fundamentally changed in the last decade. LiDAR sensors used to be very expensive, big, and heavy. For this reason, LiDAR was typically only used in military applications. But times have changed and with the advent of innovative companies like LightWare LiDAR, and our range of small and ultralight microLiDAR™ sensors – it means that LIDAR technology is more accessible to everyone. LiDAR has become more of a household name – it’s on your iPhone! – and it has been shrunk to the size of your thumb.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: In coming months, our product offering will be expanding to include :
· 3D scanning sensors – where we will be providing the smallest and lightest microLiDAR™ sensors for “detect and avoid” and volumetric scanning applications
· A range of products dedicated to IoT applications such as distance, height, and volumetric measurement
· Drone specific solutions that enable precise and safe take-off and landing

A: LightWare produces the world’s smallest and lightest LiDAR – what we call “microLiDAR™” sensors. LightWare has over 30 years’ experience in the laser rangefinder industry, from well before LiDAR was fashionable.
