Q: Tell us something more about the product? What makes WalabotDIY special?
A: WalabotDIY gives consumers Superman-vision by allowing them to see through drywall, cement and other materials to detect the location and depth of pipes, wires, studs or even track rodents or other creatures. WalabotDIY attaches to the back of select Android smartphones, hold it in your hand and move it across your wall to map what’s inside your walls.
Originally developed to see through human tissue to detect breast cancer, Walabot’s powerful technology offers today’s DIYer safe, mobile, and highly advanced imaging capabilities, giving you a powerful, new tool for your tool kit.
WalabotDIY helps users know precisely how deep to cut or how far to drill to avoid damaging pipes, wires, and objects hidden behind walls. Its robust 3D imaging sensors detect both the depth and location of objects and easily ‘sees’ through up to four inches or 10 centimeters of concrete or drywall. WalabotDIY also features an adjustable sensitivity setting for optimal calibrations on specific renovation and construction projects, offers two sensing modes of pipes and raw data, and can easily snap photo screenshots for use in offline analysis.

WalabotDIY is compatible with all Android smartphones 5.0 and higher, equipped with a USB OTG port, and connects magnetically to the back of the phone. After downloading the WalabotDIY app and a short calibration process, WalabotDIY can be used to scan the wall, and the wall images are then projected on the smartphone’s screen.
WalabotDIY has been a huge hit with the press and consumers – so much so that our inventory was back ordered. The response has been overwhelming. We’re already looking to create the next new apps for WalabotDIY.
Q: Could you explain the function and advantages of your 3D imaging technology?
A: WalabotDIY uses very low power radio waves, meaning:
1) It’s safe, unlike X-ray technology, which is based on ionizing radiation. WalabotDIY transmits radio waves with power 100 times less than a cellphone for a fraction of a second.
2) It’s mobile. Walabot’s imaging technology can be used anytime, anywhere, and by everyone.
3) It’s affordable. We developed our technology to make it affordable to general consumers.
4) It’s more advanced. It can image deeper and in harsh environmental conditions (fog, steam, smoke), doesn’t require heat sensing, unlike other technologies, and radio waves can penetrate and overcome obstacles with low attenuation.

Q: How does WalabotDIY differ from its competition?
A: Imaging systems are big, bulky and expensive. Current stud finders on the market either cost a lot or don’t work well. The WalabotDIY combines the abilities of high-end stud finders with all new abilities (such as that of a 3D picture), and brings the technology much closer to the mid-tier pricing range. Our goal was to create something very powerful, but small enough that consumers could hold it in the palm of their hand and expand the existing capabilities of smartphones people already own.
WalabotDIY was designed to make 3D imaging as convenient as possible for the average consumer, so that they can easily connect the device to their Android smartphone for new capabilities. WalabotDIY connects magnetically to the back of Android smartphones to easily work as a singular unit. Its sleek and compact design is similar in size and profile to smartphones so the device has a familiar feel for consumers.
It is extremely quick and easy to get started using WalabotDIY; consumers simply download and open the mobile app on their smartphone and are immediately walked through with step-by-step instructions, pictures and videos on how to connect, calibrate and scan.
Q: The Walabot product line also includes products for Makers – tell us more?
A: In addition to the WalabotDIY, the product line also includes WalabotMaker, a fully programmable version of the sensor with three versions for makers of all types (Starter, Maker and Pro) and designed for the needs of today’s creators.
In May 2016, the Walabot SDK was released for the WalabotMaker and WalabotPro devices giving makers and developers worldwide the ability to create content designed to track people or things, see through walls, monitor breathing, and much more. Applications created with the SDK can be used across Windows and Android-based platforms.

Q: What can we expect from you in next six months? What are your plans?
A: For now, we are listening to the community. WalabotDIY is a tool that will grow alongside you; we have received a lot of feedback about additional applications the community would like to have, from detecting leaks inside the wall, to mapping a room. We’re evaluating the feedback as it comes in to determine which abilities our users want most and how to best make them happen.
For WalabotMaker and WalabotPro, we have just expanded its capabilities to now work with Linux, Raspberry Pi, and Python. We’re hosting a “Power to the Makers” competition in late October with the goal of creating 40 new applications. WalabotMaker and WalabotPro barely scratch the surface now in terms of their capabilities; the next few months will be extremely exciting as we have some of the most creative makers in the world building never before seen applications.
