GeoSpace Labs is a manufacturer of safety based GPS technology, with the goal of providing tools for both fleets and families, commercial and consumer products, to help keep track of the things that are important to you that move around. Below is our recent interview with David Lady, President at GeoSpace Labs:
Q: You’ve recently rescued abandoned ONE20 ELD users; could you tell us something more?
A: ONE20 ELD abruptly announced on Friday May 18, 2018 that they were out of business, leaving thousands of truck drivers with electronic logging devices that will no longer function. These drivers are required by federal law to use one of these devices, so simply turning it off for tens of thousands of drivers created a debacle of epic proportions. We stepped in and provided replacement units for these drivers at cost, and covered the shipping costs for them. They only had 8 days to get a replacement system into their trucks.

Q: Tell us more about your products?
A: Our big new consumer product coming to market in June is called Whereify. It is a very low cost pre-configured GPS unit that can be self-installed in a car in a matter of seconds, so parents can track and ensure safety as they give their driving age teens freedom. Its very simple to use but also very sophisticated. Car going too fast? We will let you know. Car alarm going off? You will get a notification. Is your teen really at school? Take a look.
Q: What is your role in making highways safer?
A: The commercial electronic logging product I mentioned is a law enforcement tool that police and inspectors can use to assess if commercial truck drivers are following the federal safety rules. The federal regulations say you can’t drive three days straight on coffee; you’ve got to take breaks, you have to sleep, things like that. Our system monitors all of this and can be used in real-time to assess drivers behaviors.

Q: What can we expect from GeoSpace Labs in the future?
A: I mentioned Whereify, we are also launching some fun consumer products that allow you to track items locally, like where are your car keys. We are also developing some very nice public transportation and school bus technology where bus location, operating condition, and even real-time views into the bus are possible from a command center. Many municipalities and school districts are moving in this direction as part of general smart city design. We are very well positioned on the leading edge of the next wave of connected items. Our goal is to connect what matters, and make people safer, every second of every day, by leveraging the intersection of technology and safety.
