Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: MarineSitu provides custom long-term underwater monitoring solutions for the growing blue economy. Our technologies were developed through over a decade of research and field deployments with the University of Washington in some of the harshest marine environments. We use custom underwater cameras, sonars, hydrophones, and instrument integration hubs along with sensor fusion and machine learning data processing to provide a continuous real-time understanding of marine environments. While initially developed for underwater monitoring of marine energy devices, such as tidal turbines or wave energy converters, these technologies have applications across the blue economy.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: Our partnership with Plainsight has allowed us to integrate cutting edge AI tools into our software platform. This allows us to rapidly develop ML models for new environments and applications by leveraging the Google Cloud Platform. These tools are helping us to demonstrate the value of ML data processing and continuous learning for new applications in the blue economy.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: The main differentiator for our technologies is that they were developed specifically for long-term deployments in harsh marine energy environments to provide continuous monitoring. Our offering includes custom hardware that is corrosion and biofouling resistant, software for synchronized data acquisition across a wide range of instruments, real-time data processing including target detection, tracking, and classification, data management services, and contracted services to ensure our customer’s monitoring mission is achieved. Depending on our customer needs we can provide individual components of their monitoring system, either hardware, software, or data management, or a full turnkey solution. We are also continuing to develop new monitoring technologies through R&D grants and are happy to work with customers to secure funding opportunities to support their applications.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: Over the next 6 months we will be supporting at least 5 different field deployments that use our monitoring tools, including providing environmental monitoring for 2 tidal turbines and 1 wave energy converter. These deployments will allow us to demonstrate the full value of our tools to our customers while generating some exciting new promotional materials. We plan to release demonstration videos from our underwater cameras and performance metrics for our automated detection software. We will also officially launch our hardware product line for underwater cameras, lights, and integration hubs.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: As a small group of engineers we are dedicated to providing exceptional customer service at the lowest price possible. Our automated data processing has been shown to reduce manual review time by over 40x while providing more accurate and consistent detections. This reduction in labor leads to direct cost savings for our customers. Our company mission is to enable sustainable development of growing marine industries by providing the best tools possible.
