Q: Paul, what is Medical Departures and how does it work?
A: Medical Departures is the medical service marketplace that helps patients find, compare & book medical appointments around the globe.
Q: You’ve recently announced a $2.5 million in a Series A funding led by Singapore-based VC fund DMP and Hubert Burda Media, with CyberAgent Ventures and OPT SEA participating; tell us something more?
A: Medical Departures plans to use the investment to continue to expand the range of clinics and procedures it offers, both in Southeast Asia and Latin America as well as scaling the team for success.

Q: How did Medical Departures start?
A: The rising costs of dental care preventing family members from obtaining the treatment they needed inspired me to establish Dental Departures – an online company that hooks up global dental providers with patients.
Surprised my new wife had not been to a dentist in years because a chef’s salary couldn’t afford it was the motivation for me to explore inexpensive dental care on the internet. I found a lack of affordable dental care was not just a problem in the US, but in Europe, Australia and New Zealand too.
The results also pointed to savings of around 70% in countries including Mexico, Thailand and Hungary – but with scant authoritative information about the quality. With my wife and young family, I set about finding out, moving to Mexico and then Thailand. Coupled with my background in technology, Dental Departures was born. Medical Departures was then launched in November 2015, which naturally followed the growth and success of Dental Departures.
One of my proudest moments was helping my dad get a new smile, changing people’s lives by providing affordable, quality dental care is one of the joys of what we do.
