Meet Hydrolix – Real-Time Data Platform For Operational Intelligence At Internet Scale

Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Abby Ross from Hydrolix:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your business?

A: Hydrolix is a Portland, Oregon-based real-time data platform for operational intelligence at internet scale. Founded in 2018, Hydrolix addresses the two scale barriers facing observability and security platforms: global scale and real-time performance. The platform delivers real-time analytics that get you insights in seconds across globally distributed data at internet scale—from servers and microservices to AI agents—while enabling years of retention through next-generation compression. Trusted by Fox, ABC, and Paramount for mission-critical live events, Hydrolix has grown to over 650 customers globally in just 24 months.

Q: Can you tell us something more about your latest announcement?

A: Streaming events which include sports, award shows, and breaking news have zero tolerance for playback failure. Yet identifying root causes across complex delivery chains can take hours. Traditional monitoring tools create silos between technical infrastructure and viewer experience data, leaving engineers blind to the issues that drive abandonment and revenue loss. Traditional tools also struggle to ingest, retain, and quickly analyze petabyte-scale data. Storing that data is expensive, which forces content providers to sample or discard data, leaving them with incomplete data. Investigating a root cause the moment an incident occurs becomes even more challenging with incomplete data because you lack all the evidence, which can lead to wrong conclusions and slowdowns.

Streaming events need systems that can identify failure, trace root cause, and trigger resolution automatically, all in real-time. That’s what Hydrolix and AWS have built. The AWS Agentic Intelligent Operations architecture brings together specialized AI agents, each assigned to a distinct layer of the delivery chain: contribution, transcoding, distribution, and viewer experience. These agents communicate, correlate signals, and surface resolution paths while the event is live.

Hydrolix is the data foundation that makes this possible. Via our newly available MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, Hydrolix gives Amazon Bedrock agents direct, natural language access to complete telemetry from Amazon CloudFront, AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaTailor, and AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF). Queries that would previously require hours of data analysis return in seconds, enabling agents to detect failures, identify root causes, and implement targeted retention strategies in real time. With this joint solution, companies can ingest and store all data for years, cost-effectively (due to Hydrolix’s 25-50x compression) and get from alert to root cause in seconds, not hours, across complete data.

This combination of complete data, fast access, and agent-native connectivity is what distinguishes Hydrolix from traditional analytics tools. Hydrolix is not a monitoring tool or an analytics dashboard. It is the infrastructure that makes agentic operations real.

Q: What are your plans for next 12 months?

A: In the next 12 months, Hydrolix will continue bringing more agentic AI capabilities to its product. These include adding new capabilities to our Bot Insights solution, which include AI bot classification (deciphering between good vs. bad bots) so that operators can mitigate bots that may harm the business and optimize the good bots to boost business. We are also announcing role-based diagnostic dashboards, baseline-delta intelligence, and SIEM correlation capabilities, enabling security, SEO, and edge operations teams to move from detecting bots to understanding exactly why incidents occur and what to do about them. Alongside the enhanced dashboards, Hydrolix is releasing publicly available Claude skills for Bot Insights, making AI-powered bot investigation a first-class citizen of the product experience. The public skills enable customers to interrogate their bot data through natural language, moving seamlessly from dashboard to conversational analysis within their existing Claude workflows. The skills are open-source, meaning organizations can download, build on top of, and extend them for their specific environments, and contribute improvements back to the community.

On the CDN solution side, Hydrolix already partners with 80% of the largest CDNs on the market, and we plan to add even more this year so that we can ingest, retain and analyze any and all CDN telemetry, and deliver insights on CDN performance in seconds (which we already do). We are also adding anti-piracy capabilities to help shut down or divert traffic from pirated streams.

In summary, our main focus is on AI and agentic AI. We are the foundational data layer for giving agents the data they need in seconds to make revenue-producing business decisions.

Q: What is the best thing about your organization that people might not know about?

A: Hydrolix truly is the only data platform on the market that can ingest, retain and analyze petabyte scale log data in seconds, and deliver insights instantly, before end users are impacted. In this new agentic AI world, companies will need quality data and speed. They will need to ingest all of their data, which is only growing, make sure it’s high fidelity, retain all of it without breaking their budget, and be able to query and get insights in milliseconds. Hydrolix is the only platform that can fulfill all of those requirements. We also have integrations with Splunk, Elastic and other analytics tools so that companies have the option to keep the tools they are already using, but be able to retain and query all of their data faster, at a fraction of the cost.
