Below is our recent interview with Joseph D’Amico, Vice President at JVCKENWOOD USA Corporation:

Q: Tell us more about JVCKENWOOD Corporation – regional markets, professional industries, etc?

A: JVCKENWOOD Corporation is a leading developer and manufacturer of sophisticated audio and video products that use superior technologies to deliver high-quality sound and images. As an early pioneer in the capture, display and recording of moving images, JVC has a rich legacy of technological innovation. From our top-performing simulation projectors to its ground-breaking 4K camcorders, JVC continues to offer a succession of distinctive products that deliver sound and images with the power to move people.

JVC offers a complete line of professional equipment for the broadcast and video marketplace including studio cameras and 4K camcorders, Blu-ray recorders and precision 4K studio monitors. JVC’s original D-ILA projection technology is widely used in projection systems for simulation and high-end home theaters. JVC developed the color recording technology that made VCR’s possible, exemplified by the company’s invention of the VHS format. JVC’s work in digital compression algorithms is now part of the MPEG standard used in virtually all digital formats including DVD, Blu-Ray and digital broadcasting.

JVC Professional Video is focused on providing broadcasters, videographers as well as a range of AV professionals with the latest camera and monitor solutions and is spearheading the streaming revolution with its latest CONNECTED CAM™ series of camcorders.

Q: What role does the U.S. office provide for the company?

A: Headquartered in Long Beach, CA, JVCKENWOOD USA Corporation, is a wholly owned subsidiary of JVCKENWOOD Corporation.

Q: What are JVC Professional’s latest product offerings? What benefits do they provide?

A: JVC’s latest offering is its CONNECTED CAM 500 Series streaming handheld camcorders. These three compact 4K cameras — the GY-HC500 base model, the GY-HC550 with advanced streaming and graphics, and the GY-HC500SPC sports coaching and production camera — are designed to reduce the complexity of capturing and streaming content, as they have built-in streaming and connectivity options. Traditionally, broadcasters and content creators require multiple pieces of expensive equipment in order for content to be stream-ready, so this built-in capability is a real differentiator, and JVC is the only manufacturer who currently has this capability built directly into the camera. In addition, all models offer users advanced low latency. Latency is essentially the time it takes to send information/content from one point to the next.

Recently, JVC also added support for the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) open streaming IP protocol to its CONNECTED CAM series of broadcast cameras. This helps to optimize video for streaming across unpredictable networks, like the internet. The addition of the SRT streaming protocol offers CONNECTED CAM customers another choice for video transport, in addition to its existing Zixi protocol support that has been in place. This is important, as this helps to reduce the loss of a stream and the dreaded spinning wheel when a stream is lost.

In addition to its CONNECTED CAM line, JVC also offers a camera that allows users to stream direct to social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and others. JVC’s ongoing collaboration with the Facebook Live technology team enables users to login to their Facebook account directly from the camera and publish live streams with a push of the button.

Q: How is JVC adapting to the increased need for streaming solutions?

A: The industry leader in streaming-capable camcorders since 2003, JVC has been serving the remote production world since long before it became a standard. From education and worship to TV production and newsgathering, JVC has a wide range of models to support all applications and budgets in today’s work-from-home environment.

With the now extremely rapidly changing landscape of the production world in the current climate, the contribution-quality video transmission over the Internet has become paramount to everyone from broadcasters to educators and church leaders.
