Below is our recent interview with Blake W. McCoy, CEO of Medicare Insurance Advisors:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Medicare Insurance Advisors?
A: Medicare Insurance Advisors is an award winning, regional insurance FMO, based out of Knoxville, TN with a focus on helping independent agents grow their Medicare business. We are a specialized brokerage with a unique model geared toward local strategy and support. Over the past few years we have grown from 5 independent agents, to almost 300.
Q: Blake, can you tell us something more about your background? What were you doing before Medicare Insurance Advisors?
A: I began my insurance career as a 19 year old, which was 18 years ago, helping people with Medicare Supplements and Health Insurance. Prior to insurance, I worked in landscaping and lawn maintenance. While beginning to build my Medicare business, I also worked for Allstate and State Farm, offering Life and Long term care insurance. I quickly discovered that I have a passion for helping people with the complexity of choosing a Medicare plan. As the Medicare landscape started to evolve, I was fortunate enough to learn about new Medicare plans and the creation of Medicare Prescription drug plans. In 2012 we rebranded ourselves to Medicare Insurance Advisors and start offering Medicare insurance outside of the Knoxville area, starting in Nashville. Over the last few years, we have opened more locations and have grown from 5 agents to almost 300 agents in 12 states. In the last two years, we created and have hired two Regional Sales Directors and 1 National Sales Director. Our model is working with quality over quantity, so we have a different mindset, which includes heavily supporting our agents on a local and national level.
Q: What types of insurance options do you offer to your clients?
A: Our main focus is in the Medicare insurance space. Our agents primarily assist their clients with Medicare Supplement plans, Medicare Advantage plans/Medicare Dual Special Needs and Prescription Drug plans. In addition to Medicare insurance products, we are able to help clients with Dental insurance and Life insurance options.
Q: What were some of the key pillars that you wanted to instill with Medicare Insurance Advisors’ philosophy?
A: Our philosophy and model is geared to provide first class support and marketing strategies to our independent agents/agencies. Our staff and directors are all like minded people that believe in ‘out of the box’ thinking and being a leader in the Medicare Insurance space.
Q: How does this differ from some others in the industry?
A: In our industry we see most others slinging insurance contracts to any agent that will sign a contract and hope they sell a product. This isn’t our model or desire. Instead of just giving anyone a contract, we like to build win win relationships and contribute to help our agents/agencies grow their business. Our local, regional and national directors discuss what we do and how we can build a partnership, before giving out contracts.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We are looking to continue to grow throughout our current markets/states and strategically role our model out to other states/markets. We are adding 4-5 new states in the Midwest in 2020 and will continue to add more in the 4th quarter of 2020 and throughout 2021.Activate Social Media:
